Carol - new quilter
I am a new quilter just finished my frist quilt top and need to add batting & backing. When I took the classes this was the most fun that I had gotten out of any craft since retiring. I worked for 35 years as an Insurance Adjuster and was dedicated to the job and never really took time for myself. So now, I want to quilt and love it. Now to my questions: Can anyone give me some tips on how to store my ends or scraps? Also I am trying to find some place where I can get a few templates only they are all so expensive
I was going to use Baycreek Templates to have therm make mine, anyone used them before?? Would appreciate any input on these questions. Thanks Carol |

Welcome to the QB. Waving from Texas. I have never heard of them but thank you for the info. I have to check them out. I buy templates or make my own. And of course, there is our wonderful Rhonda, a member here, who sends you hers free. She has great links to learn and follow and ebooks too. You'll have to check her out. You can click on her name and find her.
Hope you get some feedback. Just wanted to say Howdy. |

welcome from Oklahoma! ON the storing of scraps, check out Bonnie Hunters site www.quiltville.com and for the templates, before you have someone make something "special" be sure to check and make sure there is not a copyright/patent on the one you want made!

Welcome from Northern Idaho. I know that everyone has their own way to store scraps. I have taken several see thru bins with plastic lids that stack on top of each other and I sort by colors. I don't usually keep any scraps that are less than 2 x 2 unless I have a special project in mind, but I do put them in a separate bin for a few months to see if I need them for anything before I part with them. I usually donate them to special causes. As for templates there are a lot places just do a google search and you should find alot of what you are looking for.
Welcome again!!! |

Hello and Welcome aboard ! You will love it here :)
I store my scraps in a clear plastic bins - also store extra fabric in those also. What kind of templates are you looking for ? What kind of quilts are you making ? |
Welcome from Ontario, Canada. My scraps live in a big tub until they go into my ongoing Spiderweb scrap quilt from www.quiltville.com

Thanks for the information, I was going to Baycreek they make and offer all kinds of templates. They are made out of acrylic and in shapes like apple core, hexagon, octagon etc. They offer the log cabin blocks template, just like the ones from Marti M. I will definitely check this out further. Thanks for the info.

Greetings and welcome from another New Hampshire-ite
I second Debbie's suggestion to contact Rhonda - she'll send you a couple free of charge - a really nice and generous lady If they are squares or rectangles I have the local glass guy cut them from plexiglass - very inexpensive. Make sure to say accuracy is critical. I'm moronic on NH geography - if you're near Newport: On Wednesdays (tomorrow I'll be there) Gail Peck holds an open-sew at her shop Quilters Workshop on Main Street (Rte 10) from 10 am til late afternoon. You can bring your machine or do handsewing. Gail has an ironing board, iron and cutting board set up for us. |
Welcome from N.E.GA,I don`t use templates much.I am a rotary cutter/ruler type of gal.You might want to check at Joanns,I saw some at our local one. Also a friend of mine has a auto glass cutting place cut some for her,she takes in the pattern.Just make sure it is in the public domain, such as the strips for log cabin, rail fence etc or quite a few more. You don`t want to get in trouble with someones patent. Also those patent and such don`t last as long as we all think.I talked to an attorney friend of mine and he said that generally 25 years, not a lifetime as some would have us beleive.:o

The flip flop one by Kathie Alyce, the apple core, hexagon, octogan this type. I was going to Baycreek Templates but I was told be very careful because of copyright infringements. I'm trying to locate them at reasonable prices but I don't want junk. I have been searching on e-bay found a few but hesitated.

I just love your swinging cat this is great. I love to quilt but having made only 1 quilt I am quite afraid to make another that is a little difficult, I may make mistakes. Thanks for your imput I appreciate it.:)

You would not recommend going to sites that will make anything you want from there numerous templates? I am quite afraid of making the wrong choice. So what you are recommending is have a quilt ready then buy what you need at that time?
