Cornish Maid 08-23-2010 09:05 AM

Hi everyone and greetings from the UK. I have been lurking on this message board for a while and think it is time to say hello and how much I love the pics of the quilts you have all been making, they are gorgeous.

I am a beginner, I have made one big quilt - it was meant to be a single but kept growing - which took me 2 years because I hand-quilted it. I have just made a baby's cot quilt for my 2nd grandchild - due to arrive next weekend, how exciting! - and machine-quilted this one so it was a bit quicker. I am not one of nature's natural stitchers lol, so hope to learn a lot here.

And learn you will. I'm new to quilting too. First one is still a UFO, kingsize all hand quilted.

I've only been here for a month and I've learned so much.

Welcome from New York

Welcome from Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I live in Iron Mountain which is on the border of Michigan and Wisconsin.
My maternal great-grandparents (father)were originally from Cornwall and moved to Canada prior to immigrating to the USA in approx. 1902. My maternal great-grandparents (mother) were English and involved with mining operations, mainly open pit iron mines. My aunt by marriage immigrated from Cornwall in 1921 with her parents and siblings. She visited Cornwall regularly and brought me a silver charm for my bracelet when I was in high school. It's a small world and I think you'll enjoy chatting with members of this board. I'm excited that you identified yourself. Best wishes to you and your family :-)

hey, what a small world it is! We live in an area of Cornwall, near Bodmin Moor, where there was a lot of mining. It was mostly for copper or arsenic. It is all gone now of course, but there are lots of mine shafts and engine houses dotted around the moor. It's a beautiful part of England to live in, I am very lucky!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.
