From a family of quilters

I grew up with a family of creative artists. And many of them quilt. My mother and aunts have made many. My attention span is not very long. Other than my colored pencil drawings, which takes many hours to do, I have never been interested in making a patterned piece quilt. I admire them and appreciate the time it takes to make them, but it isn't for me. That is until I went with my aunt to Pidgeon Forge last March and saw the most beautiful art quilt at the Quiltfest there.

That visit inspired the artist in me to read up on art quilts. I have spent many hours, purchased books, you tubed,Pintersted, you name it, I have done it! I have yet to try the free motion, but as soon as I finish all my pieces that I have started, I will practice it. Right now, I am creating my pieces.

i look forward to seeing all the quilting going on! I will now browse around some! :D

So, is there a special place for free motion quilting? Or is it all mixed in?

And where is the place to post your WIP?

I used fusible web. It was a new process layering it.

I used fabric markers for my shading.

All that is left to do is quilt it. Since I have only made lap quilts and quilted only by hand, the free motion quilting is new to me. I do know how to sew, but that is a long way from free motion quilting! LOL

i do plan to practice before free motion on my 4 art quilts. Planning my palettes, doing my art, that is easy for me, but the free motion quilting is new frontier!

Lots of videos on. There is also the TV show Quilting Arts TV (I think) on the PBS channel on Saturday mornings.

Thank you! I will check it out. I have watched many folks. Leah Day is one of them. She does show you how to put on the free motion foot. I guess all I really need to do is just go with it! :-)
