Welcome to the quilt board!
Cathedral windows take a lot of handwork if done the old fashioned way and thus take a long time to get done. You might want to check out this ruler and pattern. It is from Missouri Quilt Co and it is reminiscent of the cathedral window quilt but would not take too long at all to get done. There is a video on how to use it and how the quilt would look. http://www.missouriquiltco.com/circl...-brandy-s.html |

The cathedral window quilt, if you use the 10 minute block, goes together very fast. And you could use a bigger piece for the window part, and then put family pictures in for the insert. That would be a great memory quilt for your grandmother.
Just to give you an example, I made the purple blocks 5 inches square, and the white part was 8 inches square, so you have about a 5 inch, on point, opening to insert a picture. This yielded a finished square 8>9 inches And you could set the squares themselves on point, so the picture fits in a normal square, if you know what I mean. Just an idea. Have fun do this. And last, but not least, WELCOME to the board, you will love it here. One that I am working on for my granddaughter |
