I just discovered your forum here and registered right away!

I happened to be searching for the dates of the quilt show in Lancaster, PA and found a post here and discovered you folks.

I consider myself a newbie to quilting. I was 40 years old before I even sat at a sewing machine. My mom had been quilting beautiful things for years and I had always admired them, but didn't know how to sew. So, I just said, "very nice."

She bought me (to my surprise) this basic little Janome sewing machine and taught me how to stitch and told me about the quarter inch seam.

That was three years ago. Since then, I've made to full sized bed covering quilts, made numerous lap quilts, table setting items, several artsy wall hangings and have been quilting handbags.

I'll be looking around here and posting pics!

Nice to meet you all.

Isn't this just the coolest place.

Welcome to the boards. I read them everyday. I don't always respond but I look forward to reading and looking at all the quilts that everyone has made.

I too am from Maryland. I am on the Eastern Shore, what part of MD are you from?

I find alot of patterns here that I just keep adding to my list of things I want to do. There doesn't seem to be enough hours in a day to do what I want to.

Welcome, Barb

Nice to meet a fellow Marylander/quilter.

I'm from Anne Arundel County, just west over the bridge from you. I have occassion to visit ES, Maryland for work.

I have been kicking around the idea of creating a quilt that encapsulates life in Maryland. But, no time.

Of course, if I do, it will have some marshy scenes and ducks and Ches. Bay Retreivers, crabs, etc.

I think that this will always be just a project in mind rather than one on the drawing board, so to speak.

I lived in Anne Arundel up until almost 2 yrs ago. My family (ex, and three children and grandchildren) live in the Pasadena area. I am on that side of the bridge quite frequently.

I am just 30 miles from the bridge. Nice to see someone so close.

Welcome to the board

Well, we've probably met already then. I live in Pasadena. We might have mingled in a fabric store by now.

Small world.

I'm in Montgomery County-- wow-- I'm happy there are other Crabs around here!!! :)

Cordelia 03-25-2008 07:37 AM

Yeah, I saw that it's this week. I'll be there. I don't know what day I'm going up ...

I'll be stopping at all my favorite haunts there too.

So, Montgomery County! I get a chance to come into Rockville, but I must say, I dread the traffic. I usually come in down through Damascus into Gaithersburg area just to avoid the beltway, but usually come to a screeching (literally) halt on Rt. 270.

(sighs.)

Maryland's roads are just inadequate for all the population here. They're building some huge bypass system from the Baltimore Beltway heading down toward the Harbor. It's going to be a toll road. I don't know if it's going to bypass Baltimore and Washington, but anything has to help.

Hi,

I am from Carroll County, MD was raised in Lansdowne in Baltimore County. I now live just below the PA line north of Manchester. I have a sister-in-law who is a quilter who belongs to the Friendship Star Guild. My mother was a member of that guild before her death.
One of the guilds I belong to holds a retreat at the West River Methodist Youth Camp each fall. This will be my 6th year attending. I have been going since 2001 but had to miss the year I had a frozen shoulder.
Last year we found a wonderful quilt shop not far from Calvert Cliffs on #2. Of course we had to do a little shopping.

This forum sounds like a lot of fun.

Hello. I'm from southern PA just above the MD line (Cumberland/LaVale). I was actually in Lancaster the weekend of the quilt show but my weekend was booked with Sight and Sound shows. I did manage to hit a couple fabric stores though. I would love to go to the Hershey show and the Harrisburg show. I found some info on each one. Here are the links:
