Greetings from south of Denver!
Hello from the Denver, CO area. My name is shelley and I am just rediscovering quilting after a 6 year hiatus from any sewing. True story: at 7 years old I I figured out how to make an appliqué pillow by hand stitching it all and surprised my mom with it. She promptly signed me up for 4-H sewing lessons. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif I’ve been sewing or dreaming of sewing ever since. I caught an obsession with quilts by the age of 15. Each quilt has a story and carries the thread histories of so many women over the ages- I love to dream about what they were going through as each quilt was made.
I’m in my 40s now and find myself between jobs. While I search for my next job I am raiding and organizing my stash, discovering the joys of jelly rolls and layer cakes fNew to me!), and Learning quilt as you go. My UFOs from before sit paitiently waiting for me to get better at machine quilting, but in the meantime I’m enjoying making short/small projects and getting up on new techniques and all of the latest great minds in quilting. I have two big dogs, a handsome partner, bonus kids that are 12 and 8, and a pile of projects waiting that they all patiently maneuver around. Great to find you all! :) happy quilting! |

Welcome to the QB from SE Michigan! And better yet welcome back from your hiatus from quilting. You got the bug early and that is always a plus. I am so glad you were encouraged as a young girl to learn to sew. I took a 2+ year vacation from quilting and once I got back in gear I have not stopped. This forum is a great place for encouragement, questions and sharing. Jump right in and join the fun. Again welcome to the QB!

Hey Shelley, welcome aboard and glad to meet you.
Some of us just like this fabric stuff. I didn't start as early as you, but decided when I was a senior in high school that I wanted to make a quilt to take to college. I don't come from a family tradition of quilting and was self-taught before the rotary revolution. I like the modern tools and methods! I was active in the on-line quilting community around Y2K and then lucky enough to find a wonderful man while playing a game on the internet. That was in February 2001 and we've been married for 16 years now I think -- 17 in November (so funny, I am the one terrible on dates). We have 3 smaller dogs, 18-25 pound ish. A very large cat (ditto on size), and some various reptiles. I was quilting the entire time, but only came back on-line quilting wise a couple of years ago. I was so happy to find this board. The support, help and creativity of our board members is outstanding. Enough that I've stopped any magazine subscriptions because this is just better. |
Hi Shelley!
From Englewood, CO (South of Denver too). I'm in the "real" Englewood area. Meaning that I'm not in the Centennial, Greenwood Village area or what I also call the I-25 area. |
welcome and happy quiltinhg
