Welcome from Victoria, Australia.

Love your shaggy quilt. I have had the makings for one for quite a while - now you have renewed my interest.

la'mill 01-19-2010 03:58 AM

Hello there fellow aussie! haha. Yes you MUST finish the shaggy quilt it is such a fun thing to make! The snipping around every signle seam is slightly tedious but SO worth it in the end as you sit in the laundromat watching your quilt tumble through the washer then the dryer! Don't wash it at home or your lint collector will be full and I mean FULL haha, my mum was too lazy to go to the laundromat and washed it in our washing machine and dryer and we could literally peel away the lint from the tray...it was as thick as a cake haha

la'mill 01-19-2010 03:59 AM

And I am also a Victorian.

Hello & Welcome :-D
I love your quilt

Gwyn 01-19-2010 07:54 AM

Welcome to the forum. I think your quilt is really nice. Wouldn't mind swapping for something so nice. Don't be shy, join in. We all started somewhere and ours are not always up to our standards. No where else in the world will you find quilters so willing to praise and love anything and everything completed for them.

I can't speak for everyone...but one thing I have noticed about crafters is that we rarely receive home or hand made items. People tell me "You can make it for yourself and it would look better." While this may or may not be true, it isn't the point. When someone takes the time to make it for me, I can't see the mistakes or flaws. All I see is the love.

Hello, and welcome from Missouri, in the middle of the US. Your shaggy quilt looks wonderful! Love the fussy cut cats. Glad to see another young quilter. This is a great place to ask questions when you are ready to try something else.

la'mill 01-19-2010 05:58 PM

Oh wow everyone is SO nice and welcoming and wonderful!!!! Thanks everyone I'm definitely glad to be here and I am also definitely going to give a new project a go! I have been looking at a craft blog and saw this lovely quilt on there, and it shows the instructions so I think I'll give it a try. But I have no idea what quilting terminology is...such as "binding"...I know it is a very basic word but whoops haha. Can anyone tell me? :) I'll post the link so you guys can have a look...tell me if its easy for a beginner or not :) and what you think of the design?

Shemjo 01-19-2010 06:24 PM

That looks like a great quilt, especially if you have the directions.
Binding is the edging that you put on after the sandwich is quilted.

nursie76 01-19-2010 07:58 PM

That looks like a good beginner quilt as long as you cut accurately.
I am not young, but am an intermediate beginner myself. This board is a great place to learn and grow as a quilter. I also found a bunch of "How to Quilt" videos on You Tube and since I am a visual learner, they really helped. Give it a whirl.
You certainly have made a good start.

earthwalker 01-19-2010 08:01 PM

Checked out your potential next project...very nice. You seem to be drawn to bright, vibrant fabrics, so it will look great. Just remember...there are no silly questions...quilting is meant to be creative and fun...if you get "stuck" just call on us.

littlehud 01-20-2010 08:16 AM

Hello and welcome from SW Iowa. I love your quilt. Great job.

Candela59 01-20-2010 09:17 AM

Welcome from Central Oregon! That is such a cute quilt!

I'm new to quilting also and have found it quite addictive.

I'm just amazed each time I lay the completed blocks out and there's a quilt!

Good job and I hope you continue.

la'mill 01-20-2010 04:32 PM

Well thanks for the advice guys. This place is great, I really feel part of a friendly, lovely group willing to help me with anything! :) And yes I am drawn to bright colours, it must be my age coming through lol. By the way you all have such nice display photos. Do you find it funny to think that in Tibet it is not the woman who sews but the man? The man or men of the house are the sewers and they are really good! xoxo

Gwyn 01-20-2010 07:47 PM

There are some wonderful gentlemen who belong to our forum too. They are very kind and giving as well as creative. When asked, they always go the extra mile.

Cute! Shaggy quilts are fun. I love to see young quilters. My daughter made her first quilt at the age of 16, and is now 26 and loves quilts. The pix on my avatar is the wedding gift I made her in 2008.

Gramof6 01-27-2010 09:07 PM

Hello & Welcome. I have quilted since'97 & have never made a shaggy quilt but I do love yours! You did a great job on it. So happy that you shared it with us & hope you will post more.
