Hello from Alabama

I'm Vera. I've been sewing for 40 years and quilting about 30. I have 3 grown children. My oldest son and his oldest son ( my 3rd grandchild) were killed in a car accident Aug 30, 2010. I have fewer bad days now but occasionally I still have really bad days. I have 14 grandchildren. I have been teaching several of them to quilt and sew. We have to do it in concentrated burst since they live in three different states. DH and I are going to Alaska next month as a celebration of our 40th anniversary which was in Feb.

I also knit, crochet, cross stitch and love to read. I listen to books on tape when I am sewing or quilting. I'm part of a sewing ministry in my church. When mainly make quilts for nursing homes and the VA home.

I've been reading here for a couple of months and enjoy this board.

Hello Vera from Alabama. I live in Montgomery and am relatively new to quilting (3 mos) and kind of learning on my own. I get lots of helpful information from this Board and just love visiting here. I also have 3 adult children, and retired from working 3 years ago. Welcome, and maybe we will run across each other sometime while on a cloth hunt or other fun quilting activity.

Howdy, Vera, welcome from Oklahoma! Loved the time we lived in Brownsboro hamlet by Huntsville, Monte Sano Mts. are lovely this time of year. We also lost our 20 yr old son in a freak accident & I confess that quilting keeps me busy doing for others which band-aids the pain. If I find some fabric from his childhood clothes I turn the pain upside down by making some glorious block with it to celebrate his wonderful life and what a blessing he was to us.

Hi Vera, welcome from Florida. I have a daughter that lives in Hoover, AL. First, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It doesn't matter how long ago it happened, the pain never goes away completely. In time, the pain will be replaced by good memories, but in the blink of an eye sometimes, you will be transported back to the past and the pain will be just as raw as it was the day that you lost your loved ones. This board is awesome and you will learn something everyday. We will laugh with you and cry with you. Take care. ((hugs))

Along with many others here-welcome from northwestern Louisiana. How awful having your son and grandson killed. My father died before his mother did and she said there are just no words to express this loss. You aren't suppose to die before your children do. I hope we can help you even a little on those worst days.
