Hello from Alaska!

Hi, I just very recently joined the Quilting Board. My name is Nina, live in the Last Frontier aka Alaska for now. I spend my days by being a full-time engineer and a part-time university professor, in the evenings and weekends I become a quilter. In addition to quilting, I enjoy training for and competing in triathlon races, traveling, golf, yoga, as well as I do some mountain climbing and rescue.
I'm married to an Army soldier, and our 6-year-old, very spoiled beagle is the kid of the house.

I have been quilting on and off for a few years, and recently have been starting to spend more time by doing some of my own designs as well.

Nice to meet you all!

I have been in AK for almost 4 years now, the longest I have ever lived in one place, thanks to my job. So although I have absolutely loved it here, I am kinda looking forward to something new and different again.

Moose and bears - I really enjoy seeing them both. Although I am kinda looking forward to moving again, I will miss the mountains and nature. I was climbing Denali even before moving to AK, nowadays I am starting to appreciate sunshine and 70+ temperatures more than -20 but I am sure my mind will change when living somewhere else.

Hello Nina, welcome from Oklahoma!

Hello.... My son is moving from anchorage to seattle.....I will miss Alaska A LOT! Although he does work for Alaskan airlines... So we might get back for visits.

in 2011 my son gave me the 2011 Alaska quilts calendar. I just completed Novembers quilt Mantanuska Mosaic for my son as a rememberance of the state. He is very sad to go.....but knows in the over all scheme of things he needs to make this move.

You have to post a picture of the quilt!
Alaska is definitely one of those states that split opinions: some truly love it up here, and keep coming back, and then the others absolutely hate it.... too bad your son has to leave. But luckily Seattle is only a 3.5 hour flight away!

Hcim55 02-20-2013 06:07 AM

Hi Nina, good idea! As I am really new to the site, where do you think I should post the pic?

thx, Michelle

P.S. as to your love/hate comment..I didn't mention that we have not been able to wipe the smile off our Arizona raised daughter in law...lol

Sweet! I'm gonna check it out right away! You can also post pics in your profile - not as a profile pic but as showcase of your work.
