I have been piecing about a year or so, but sent them out to be quilted. Just purchased the Mega Quilter, frame and qbot so I can do my own quilting, but need help with the designs. Sounds like lots of expertise in the group, so hope someone can help

Hello & welcome from Nottingham, UK.

I do believe my cousin has a similar system to the one you have mentioned, I'm going to visit her this week end as we have another public holiday here in the UK so I will ask here for you.
I also think she joined a forum on the net somewhere in the US too.

I'll find out & be in touch .

Hello, and Welcome from Missouri, in the middle of the US. I remember spending some time in Nottingham in the 80s. I remember how green the whole of the UK was! And the wonderful rail system!
Anyway, this is a wonderful place to ask questions and get help!

Welcome, from Michigan. Just curious, which MegaQuilter did you purchase the MegaQuilter 18.8 or the original MegaQuilter with the 9" throat? Myself, I just purchased a used Pfaff GrandQuilter and Next Generation frame. The exact same thing as the original MegaQuilter. Both are identical and made by Janome. I'm also considering purchasign the Qbot for my setup. So I'll be curious to hear how you like it, once you get through a few quilts.

Welcome from Washington. Is your question about the qbot? If so, what do you need to know. Maybe I can help as my sis has a grandquilter with the qbot. We have had fun with it.

thstarfish 05-26-2009 07:48 PM

It is the original Mega Quilter! It is a nice machine, but would love the larger throat. Have to start small and work my way up!

thstarfish 05-26-2009 07:51 PM

I am trying to find out if there are more ready made designs available for the Qbot. Am working on designing some of my own, but so far have not really had enough time to learn much about the qbot design program. T

Welcome from Iowa. Glad to have you here.

Yes, they have a few, very few. Just before Christmas, they had 3 available. They could have more by now. I think my sis loaded the disc onto her computer then saved it to a sd card. Be sure to get the size sd they say. Bigger memory does not work. She got the CD at a Pfaff dealer that also sold the q-bot.

mytwopals 05-27-2009 05:00 AM

So in your opinion, is the Qbot worth the $4,000 price tag?

kd124 05-30-2009 10:53 PM

Since I didn't put the money out for it, it's hard for me to say. That and the fact that we are just learning. I can say it gave us the ability to quilt with designs instead of just stippling/meandering or marking the top. I haven't played much with the software, but did make a design for a friend. She hasn't been able to come over and see if it works out though.
It doesn't help that we have trouble with the machine itself. On more intrique patterns it breaks the thread a lot even with the same thread top and bobbin. As a result we have been sticking with the simpler designs. We have had a lot of thread problems with this machine(Pfaff Grandquilter) even before Qbot. My sis bought the Pfaff because we both have older Pfaffs and love them. Sorry I can't be of more help.
