Hello All

My search about a Pfaff 1222 brought me here. I am trying to learn how to sew, I have two machines, both Singers by Bambergers...One a pile of rust that somewhat looks like it used to be a sewing machine and one that just stopped working. Both are old, obviously, but we took care of my mother's machine better than my grandmothers...It worked great for at least 50 years, but now it just breaks the thread, this after I found the manual for my Mom so we could thread the machine so she could sew something...Um, guess I forgot about me...I just wanted to sew my clothes and after attending a kite workshop with my club I thought about getting a replacement machine to do the kite stuff as well as my clothes repairs...A friend of mine in the club has found an excellent Pfaff 1222 for $100 that he says runs perfectly. So I was looking for information on it. I think it's a good deal, and I trust him as he's been making kites for years and knows machines having several that he uses for his kite making...We had found another one but the guy selling it backed out of the sale. Sorry, me again...I hand sew things since I never used a machine...Any question? I do better answering them...lol

Welcome from another NJ member. Don't know anything about the Pfaff you are looking for info - sorry. The vintage machine you have that is breaking thread probably just needs a good cleaning, oiling and proper threading.

Assuming you are working with rip-stop nylon for your kites, I would think any machine which you could use a walking foot would do the job unless you are doing lots of decorative applique on your kites. Then you might want some decorative stitches and I don't know how compatible they are with a walking foot as I don't own/use one.

Where in NJ are you located?

Hello from New Mexico-- the Pfaff 1222 sounds like a good machine. Pfaff's have a very good reputation. There are other choices one can make. A new machine with a manual and warranty has advantages too. Brother probably makes the best value-priced machines (under $300) if you decide to go with a new one. I would avoid low-end Singers. Singer's reputation was built years ago and they haven't always kept their quality standards in the last 20 years. If I were in your position, I might just go with the Pfaff.
