Hello from Boston!
Hi all. I am a long-time quilter living in the Boston area. I've been lurking on this Board and decided to "come out" and play! I learned to sew (garments) from my mom. She never quilted and I taught myself in the 80s with the help of Eleanor Burns' Quilt-in-a-Day books. Now I alternate between garment sewing (used to be corporate clothes for work, now casual tops (mostly) in retirement) and quilting. I've discovered that while I like the piecing fine, I love the quilting more, especially hand quilting, which I thought I would like.
My DS got married a couple of years ago and at a "meet-the-parents" dinner, her mother and I instantly became BFFs. She lives on the west coast and we've gotten together a few times and quilt-sewing our brains out. I got her into quilting and she took off with it and is having a great time. My last visit was this last January and I got home just as the Covid crisis was exploding. I came home with my baby quilt top completed for my newest grandchild, born a month ago. So I'm hunkered down at home just like everyone else. You guys have inspired me to get my groove on and start sewing/quilting again so here I am! Looking forward to interacting with you all. |
Welcome aboard the QB!! I look forward to seeing a whole lot of you here in these parts. I want to see this quilt for the new grand baby! Like you I started quilting back in the 80's with a vengeance compliments of Eleanor Burns QIAD on public tv. I never looked back. After this virus stuff is done and we have a bit of safe freedom again, you may want to consider a guild to give you a bit more quilting fun. There are a lot of great folks here at all different levels and so much fun! Again welcome to the QB!

So happy for you to come out with your first post! I've gotten more than one idea/project from Eleanor over the years. I'm waving from Seattle -- if we both got on I-90 and headed for the opposite coast we would meet somewhere in the middle. I should check where that is, just in case!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_90 I'm a dedicated piecer and meh quilter. I really admire all of you who do hand work. The next big step after posting is pictures -- if you lurk you know we love pictures. I've been on the internet a long time but posting pictures for potential criticism was hard for me at first. Nowadays though, I honestly get more out of showing the problems I encounter and how I manage to get out of them. |

Oh yay you! That is fantastic fun and the quilting really enhances it. That's the part I miss, I can stick stuff together ok but I feel I swing and miss on the enhancing side of things.
