I'm near LA... but about 5 min ago I felt the room moving from the effects of the quake near Baja, CA. That was so weird.

I'm a young quilter, 26, mostly self-taught. I like mostly hand work, especially hand quilting but things sure do get finished quicker when they're sewn by machine!

My hubby is on a car forum and suggested I find a forum of my own, so I'm excited to be here!

Hi Megan,
Welcome from the Inland Empire. Am I near you? I felt that quake too. I stood in the hallway for a long time while DH just kept on watching TV. The news makes it sound so much worse than it is.
Anyway, I am relatively new to quilting and am mostly Internet schooled.

welcome from Illinois. I have a couple of cousins in the LA area, one North of LA and one in Huntington Beach. Neither are quilters though.

Welcome to the board from Ventura County. We did not feel the earthquakes today, but definitely heard about them. Our family felt them in Orange County.

Hi from the high desert. We felt it up here, so either I am waving to you, or the whole place is moving. ha It just rolled and rolled, haven't felt any aftershocks, just the original.

I was sitting in my chair at my sewing machine and my chair started moving, the chandilier started swinging and the hugh wind chimes in the house started chiming, but no damage. Been through the Whittier Narrows and Northridge quakes, too. I was at work several times when quakes hit and I work in a hospital. We have life vests to put newborn babies in and all the nurses grab one and put one on. It hold 4 babies each. That's all I could think about when they hit at work...save the babies and everyone responded well. A lot of brave and sensible people I work with.

Hey guys thanks for the greetings! Yeah, the quake was so weird. Completely new experience for me. The newborn life vests sound great! SAVE THE BABIESSSSS.

I'm putting up my avatar pic right after I post this. What do you think?

Hey have any of you done a photo quilt, the ones where you take a photograph and make a quilt with tiny mosaic squares that looks like the photo?

shaverg 04-06-2010 07:03 AM

Welcome.

Where are you located. I live in Castaic. I actually was in NC when the earthquake hit, but my husband felt it in Castaic.

zjsquiltymomma 04-06-2010 11:01 AM

I'm new to this site too. I'm from Chino Ca. My hubby is also on a car forum and I thought the same thing...why not find a forum for quilters. I just love this!

I've seen a special on that once where the person used a printed grid - material looked like interfacing. ALl the pieces of fabric had to be cut the same size and they were sewn together first in one direction then the other. Sorry I'm not explaining it very well. ...but it worked - nothing fell off.
