Hello from Chicago! I'm working on my 1st quilt :D

Hello everyone!

I post on Pattern Review under the name Chemical-- you'll find me hanging out in the Fabric Discussion forum because I looooooooove hording fabric. I mostly sew people and doll clothes and have never made a quilt before. I feel a little crazy hopping in with both feet but some times you just have to do it!

I found a gorgeous all cotton shirting that sparked my imagination and now I'm following a vision LOL. The shirting is white with vertical stripes made of little horizontal lines in a soft orange-apricot color. I want to make a quilt with squares that alternate the direction of the stripes.... vertical stripes, then horizontal stripes, then vertical stripes, then horizontal stripes etc etc.

Anyone have a name for that? Or is it too simple to have a name? :D

It sounds simple but I'm brimming with questions... going to hang out in the forums for a while and get my legs before I start pestering the Quilting Elites with my newb queries.

Hope you have a great day!

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. A quilt featuring a strip fabric can be really nice. You can cut squares and change the strip direction each time you cut. Draw out a design on graph paper and go for it.

Hello & welcome from Texas. We are so glad you joined this board. Since you already sew it will be an easy transition from clothes to quilts. Ask questions as we are always wanting to help new quilters (and old ones too). I bet you will get addicted to quilting just like most of us have done. Post often & learn to take pictures & post them. We LOVE pictures.

Thanks for the welcome Nan and Lori!

QuiltMom2, yes but my vision needs some serious supervision :D

Tartan, I was thinking of strip piecing my quilt... once i get my fabric (it's coming via FedEx SmartPost so it's going to be a while LOL) and wash it up and take pics I will post in the main forum to see if that will actually work. I have no idea what I am doing!

Osewme, thank you for the encouraging words and I will post plenty of pics NO PROBLEM! I've been reading the Main forum and you all are so insightful and helpful that I'm feeling emboldened to maybe take on something a little more exciting than just checkerboard squares... but maybe I should just start slow... I'll post pics of the fabric and see what you all think :o
