Hi,
Just a short word to say "I LOVE this link" !!! I am an ex-pat in China for a few years and there are no shops or stores that sell quilting stuff, so I rely on wonderful and knowledgable people like you to keep me in touch with the quilting world.. I did find wonderful markets with cheap cheap cheap fabrics... so I have been going a bit mad with the stash collection.. Well talk to you all soon.. |
Sew glad to meet you. I can only imagine the material you must be finding there. I hope you can find a way to quilt while you are there. I know some of the most beautiful (and oldest) quilts in the world are from China. Welcome from Centennial, Colorado.

Were you a quiltter when you lived in HK? And if so, how did you get your supplies?

No, I wasn't a quilter when I first moved to Hong Kong. However, that is where my interest began and I started purchasing my first quilting bits and pieces. I bought some templates (English) and some books (Japanese translated to English) from the Yaohan department store in Hong Kong. I still have the books and the templates - I just checked one of the books and I paid HK$ 125.00. I started out hand-quilting (slow process and was self-taught). First time I moved there was before kids, so was very busy working...stayed a year then came back to Australia. Returned again when my youngest was 6 weeks old and my eldest turning 4 (now they are almost 18 and almost 21)...I used to do tapestry and embroidery, didn't get seriously into quilting 'til they were grown. No internet either...so things were more difficult. Perhaps online ordering may be the way to go, and if people come to stay, give them a shopping list before they come to visit you.
