Welcome to the board. I am new to quilting myself, wife took me to so many quilt show that I finely dicided I can do that. I started this summer and have made two queen tops and one baby quilt am cutting out a throw now. I am retired AF but not retired from work at this date. I am a member of VFW and AL and I thank you for the work you are doing. When I do retire from work I plan to quilt for some of the homes also. You are correct in saying that there is a lot to learn. My wife is a great source of information and knowledge. I have trouble picking out fabric that goes together but I guess if I like it that is most important part. If it is ugly to someone else that is their problem. So much to to do so little time.

Again welcome.

I have 4 children and 9 grandchildren. My daughter lives in Indiana and works in a manufacturing plant. My oldest son lives here and is an LA County Sheriff's Deputy. My next son lives here and is a Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy. My youngest son just separated from the Marine Corps after 5 years of service and 2 campaigns in Iraq. He and his lovely wife and my grandson are currently living with us until she can join the Coast Guard. He will be going to college to learn Fire Science and wants to be a fireman. My husband will be retiring in 5 years and wants to travel.

I have enough material to last me the rest of my life. I've made quilts that I donated to people who made donations to horse rescue organizations and now I am making quilts for disabled American vets, donating them to the DAV in San Bernardino and will be donating to a VFW. The VFW caters to the needs of disabled vets living in a vets home in Barstow, CA. My goal for them is to make 92 quilts sized for use by those in wheelchairs and 92 larger, throw size quilts for their beds.

I'm new at this and don't know how to do a lot of the quilt block designs. All I can do so far is the log cabin block and the "strip" blocks which are sewn onto foundation material. I tried making a triangle for the first time yesterday and found that to be easy to do. Now I just have to figure out how to make those gorgeous eight point stars.

I'm so glad I found this message board and, believe me, I will be devouring every word in an effort to learn how to do a variety of blocks so that I can get those quilts to the disabled vets.

Welcome from Idaho...this is a great site!

Hi Ruth, McQuilter, Gary, Elaine, Leahbug, Bobbielinks and Lindsay. Thank you for the welcome.

Ruth, it will be worth allowing my quilting chair to acquire some dust because I will finally be learning how to quilt correctly with all the info that is on this board. Hahaha. I'll keep the dustpan next to my chair.

Gary, that quilt in your avatar is beautiful. I still can't figure out how to sew blocks on the diagonal or diamond shape. If the instructions are on this board, I'll find them. I want to quilt like you do and everyone else here.

Do all of you have albums where I can look at your beautiful quilts? I would love that.

Lindsay, where in England do you live? I would LOVE to travel to England some day; maybe after my husband retires I can talk him into making the trip there. I'd love to see your work.

Do you know where I can get hold of Irish Lace? I know, wrong country but maybe you would have info on that. I would love to own some honest to goodness Irish lace.
