Hello - I am new here because I am starting a memory quilt

Hello.. just joined because I am always looking for ideas and input. I have been quilting off and on for years (more years than I care to think about). I am not serious or heavy into it... usually just work on baby quilts for family and friends. Recently I was inspired to start a new project that has me nervous and I want to do the best job I can on it. Our family lost my nephew in an auto accident and I wanted to make my sister a memory quilt from Jake's clothes. So I came here to learn, be inspired and to keep motivated Thanks

I am So sorry to hear about the loss of your nephew.
I have made a tee-shirt quilt, and that type of cotton (t-shirt) needs to be ironed onto a lightweight fusible web. I used a dark tonal background fabric in between and around all the shirt logos. When the shirt logos were not the same size, I added coordinating and contrast fabrics.

Hi and welcome from Kentucky! I am so sorry for your loss, but I know your sister will be honored to have a memory quilt. I see you are from southern Indiana...my sister and mom live in Scottsburg and I am about 65 miles southeast of Louisville.

Let me start of with how sorry I am over the loss of your nephew. My family means the world to me and I would be devasted to lose one of them in an accident like that. I made a memory quilt for a lady whose son was graduating from high school. she brought me 2 rubbermaid containers full of clothes from the past 18 years. Some of the pieces I cut into 6 1/2" squares. I chose that size because some of it was baby clothes and that was the biggest square I could make. Some of the clothes needed interfacing added for stability and some was fine like it was. Sometimes I took smaller pieces - like a pocket from his overalls - and appliqued them to larger pieces - like a blanket square. I would be more than happy to discuss this with you if you aren't finished yet. (828) 321-2800.
