Not familiar with the Singer you mentioned, but the Singer S18 is the same machine as the Janome 6500P, under the Singer name. Nova has them for $1299.00, (CDN) but you may find them cheaper. I paid less than that at an independent place about 2 years ago. Mine has been fantastic.

I agree with this. New Singers aren't great. I'd go with the Janome if you want a new machine or a vintage Singer for piecing.
