I've been doing patchwork and quilting since about 1985. I haven't gotten bored yet! Something new and exciting is always coming down the road. In 2004, a friend of mine started a quilt shop in my town, and she needed a partner. So I anteid up and became a partner in the shop.
It has grown alot since then, but remains a "non-profit" activity. but one of these years we're going to stop putting all the money back into the shop and start taking a profit out. Alot of the quilts I make now are samples for the shop, but I've made a lot of quilts for fam and friends, and some for myself. The most exciting thing yet is that a famous quilter is coming to our shop in 2011 - BIG DEAL!!!. Being a shop owner has it's good and bad sides. It is wonderful to meet and help lots of great quilters. But the shop itself takes so much time, that actually doing quilting gets pushed to the back burner. Anyone else in my boat? Got any suggestions for me?

Welcome to the board!

Sorry I have no suggestions for you. I had to wait until I shhipped my kids off to college before I could get some serious quilting time  (Boy! Do I miss them!)

Welcome!
I work part-time at LQS. I think I understand what you are saying...only because I watch my boss (owner) go thru these struggles. She has finally started making a profit a few years ago because she started selling long-arm quilting machines....that helped the bottom line a whole lot! SO my suggestion is...start selling a line of machines?? I have no idea..I am just a quilter that works for fabric basically!

Hi from Ohio. I know at our LQS when there isn't a class or when there isn't a lot to do the owner and employees will sometimes work on their personal quilts to find a little more time for their passion.
