Hi, I'm brand new to quilting. Just joined a class at a local quilt shop, have purchased my material and am looking forward to doing my first project - rail fence lap size quilt. I don't have a sewing machine and don't have alot of money to invest in one. Any and all advice as to an economical but long lasting simple quilting machine would be appreciated.

Don't know where you are from, but if you have Freecycle and Craig's list you can find good buys on them. Also try Goodwill and other thrift stores. If you want new, try a Brother 6000i. They're about $150. on sale. It comes with a lot of stitches and attachments that you use for quilting.

HI, I'm from Norfolk. Not sure what part of NC you are from but on Craiglist there is a machine in Yorktown for 25; it says it's a great starter and works great. Sellers are moving. I hope this helps. You may also want to try some of the thrift stores.

For quilting you just need a sweing machine that sews a straight stitch. You should be able to hunt the used lists and find one for cheap - like under 450. If not a simple machine by singer or brother that just does a couple of stitches should work out well. You might find one for around $100 - $150 on sale. Keep looking there a gems out there to be found!

Welcome from MO. Try Walmart for an inexpensive brother mach. It will get you started. If not that, many sewing mach shops have 2nd hand machines, you might try that.
