Hello from Oklahoma!
Hey ya"ll! I'm Debbie, originally from GA, but both Dad and DH were career USAF so I've moved around a bunch (lived in GA, MT, NY, Bermuda, VA, GA again, MO, MS, Germany, MT again, NE, NM and 28 years here in Oklahoma City, have been here since 1986. Came for DH's last 4 years of military and never left. Hubby Mike and I have been married 42 years.
I'm a librarian and about ready to retire, Dec 31, 2015! 466 days minus vacation, sick leave and holidays and weekends, it is about 225 working days. I'll be 62 next May and we want to take our RV, travel, work at places and see America. That's our goal anyway. I'm a Mom to 3 grown children - Oldest daughter Amy (41) has 17 year old daughter, Crysta is our only DGD, and a 16 year old son, Cody, our 2nd oldest grandson. She's a single mom and lives close. Only son, Corey (almost 40) lives in Denver, and he and our DDIL, Lacey, have 2 youngest grandsons, Oli is 4 and Niles is almost 2. Youngest daughter, Keli (38) lives just around the corner from us. She and our DSIL, Andrew, have 3 boys, oldest grandson Taylor will be 18 on Halloween, then Reily is 12 and Caiden is 8. I've been sewing almost all my life, it seems, learned to earn a badge in GS and then sewed to make clothes for the girls but didn't start quilting (actually I piece, not quilt) till about 15 years ago and just loved the nonsense some would call it of cutting fabric into pieces and sewing it back together. I think I've made about 30 tops and actually quilted 2 of those. I usually pay someone to do that part BUT I do like to make my own binding, sew it on and then hand stitch it down. I know, I'm strange! |
Welcome from Ontario, Canada.

Welcome to the board from New Hampshire. Sounds like you have a lovely family.
I am am like you in that I much prefer piecing to quilting. |
Welcome from OHIO! My hubs is retired Navy (30 years) and after retirement we traveled to all 48 states in our RV. You will love it...we have such a great country and so much to see.
|
Welcome from Southern California! You are not strange, most women I know do not quilt their own work. I do some stitch in the ditch and have tied some. How blessed you are to have your family living so close. Wish my husband wanted to see the USA. He always wants to go to Germany. So I travel with my oldest daughter and we are going around to all the MLB parks.
Since I am from Kansas I have driven through Oklahoma from time to time. You have settled in a very pretty state. |
Hi Debbie from Lori in Wisconsin! My only child, a daughter, also lives in the Denver area.

Welcome from Michigan!:)

Welcome from MD and a big thank you to both you and your husband for serving. You aren't strange. Many of us don't enjoy the actual quilting phase but like to piece and bind. Or our machines limit the size quilt we want to quilt. Glad you joined us.

Welcome from East Oklahoma. Originally from Massachusetts. Glad you could join us.

Hi Debbie...welcome to the board from OKC. My DH is retired AF but we were never stationed here. We were stationed many places, too. After I retired from my job, we took our bus conversion out on the road for 9 weeks. I really enjoyed that. Unfortunately, my health won't allow us to travel in it any more. So glad you've joined us here at the QB and I can guarantee you'll learn a lot from these wonderful people on here.

You have lived such and interesting life while raising a great family. Welcome from the foothills of the beautiful Colorado Rockies

Welcome from Long Island NY.
Come visit and join the pincushion swap under swaps. we're a lot of fun and non judgmental. a great way to get to know a lot of us. a lot of chatter and most of all fun. |
Welcome from Pennsylvania. I love the Board and you will too. Can't wait for Monday mornings to get it. I quilt and piece--love hand quilting the most. Problem is--goes so slow. I do not machine quilt but I have quilters who do it for me because it is cheaper than hand quilting. My church girls hand quilt every Tuesday, but since machine quilting is now less expensive, we really do very few quilts anymore. It's a shame because hand quilting is such fun and so beautiful. Now we are making knitted and crocheted prayer shawls for shut ins. Nice talking to you.

welcome. I relocated to Oklahoma to be near my DS who passed away 3 years ago. I am here with a DD in Fla. and one in Texas. So quilting both piecing and hand quilting, along with other hand work, knitting ,crocheting etc keeps me sane. Love this board too it passes many happy hours. Keep on posting guys and gals.
