I'm a newbie quilter and want to help a friend make a quilt from her daughter's clothes. This will includes lots of different fabrics, which she wants in the quilt as her daughter is recently deceased. Any ideas or suggestions as to how best do this. Also, has anyone done a French braid? Need some easy ways to trim the braids.
Thanks. |
Hello back to you from another Oregonian. I too am new to quilting-only 5 under by belt. Having a great time with it. Hope you do too!
I don't have any hints for you but am anxious to hear what tips you receive! This is a very helpful bunch that are willing to teach others! :D |
My suggestion is to make sure everything is washable and use an iron-on interfacing to stabilizr any knits. Sounds like a big project.

Please tell us about 1 rotten dog. Sounds interesting. :D :D

We are on our 4th Rottie -- and she is absolutely rotten -- thus we call them our "Rottenweilers." She's a rescue and we've spoiled her and loved her as much as we have the three previous ones. She lays at my feet when I am sewing.

We love doggy pictures. Please show us your "rotten" doggie. Here is the link to the thread for animal pics:

Welcome to the board from another Oregonian. One of my favorite dogs ever was a Rottweiler (sad to say she is no longer with us except in our memories). She was just the sweetest dog. Are you sure you shouldn't be calling your dog 1spoiledrottendogie? :D As far as your memory quilt goes...find a pattern that will work best with the fabrics or a theme? There are a few people on this site who have done memory quilts. I did one last year for my SIL when my BIL passed away. I used a fishy theme as he was a fisherman. One of the gals on this site did a beautiful quilt using different fabrics from nurse scrubs as a memory quilt. I think it may have been a Jacobs Ladder pattern? It was beautiful. You could probably do a search on this quilt site & find some.

I have the French braid book, but haven't attempted it yet. Two of the girls on here did one and they are beautiful, probably posted in pics somewhere.

Welcome aboard, some good advice here. As stated above, stabilize the knits and make sure everything is washable.
