Hello from southern Virginia

Hi, it's very nice to be here. I taught myself how to quilt a year or so ago by looking at youtube videos and instructions from quilters on the internet. I find that I like making the patchwork quilts the best, I guess because that's the kind of quilts I remember from my childhood. I hate cutting triangles for some reason so most of my quilting is by piecing squares or rectangles but I think I might be ready to try more difficult projects soon. I've been looking into the GO! cutting systems but I saw an old thread where some of you said don't do it The people who know best are the ones who actually quilt, so I'll trust your judgment on that. I have cut around 4500 2" squares and my next project will be a queen-size postage stamp quilt. Have any of you made one and was it pretty?

I'm looking forward to digging into posts and learning some new things.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Postage Stamp quilt can be beautiful but a lot of work if you are not strip piecing. If you like tradional quilt patterns, go to Bonnie Hunter's site at www.quiltville.blogspot.ca and click on the Free Pattern tab at the top of the site.

Welcome from Oklahoma. Yes I made a postage stamp quilt once. It was a small one though.

Thanks! I'll do that.

Endora is new here too, and she's from Canada. see if you can contact her as a new neighbor.

I did a postage stamp 1" sqs. for my boyfriends dog, it was 45 x 45. I cute each piece separately, and sewed them together in rows. that was back in 1977. the dog loved it and dragged it all over with her.
it was fun to do. join the swaps for more variety in your quilt. good luck.

I can't imagine doing a quilt for my dog because she's in and out and it would be filthy in no time. If I had a house dog, I might do that.

Yes, they sure are. I bet you I've watched way over 100 since I've been quilting. There were even videos to show me how to use my newest machine. Priceless info on there.

Welcome from California. Missouri Star Quilt Co has some amazing videos. Good luck with the postage stamp quilt.

If I were cutting that many squares, I would use my accuquilt go cutter. I have used it for a lot less. Welcome to the board.

It sure is. Youtube videos taught me how and in what direction to lay my cloth down and how to cut strips. Instructions from quilters on websites were very helpful in things like finding the bias of the cloth you're working with and how to bind a quilt. A lot of aggravation and tearing my hair out (and a bit of under-the-breath cussing) accompanied all that learning, too, lol. And there's still a lot that I don't know but I love doing it.
