I am a beginner, sort of. My husband and I put together a grandmother's garden 23 years ago. I don't know where to start now. I am in need of everything from fabrics to a sewing machine. I know how to do a block of nine, but that really doesn't interest me, is there something else just as simple with a little more pizzaz to get started with. I can use pieces of unwanted clothing until I can afford to get some material.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Hello and Welcome from Louisiana! You can find alot of inspiration here for "easy" quilts to make. That is so sweet that you and your husband put a quilt together. Fabric will come your way if you keep an eye out, try craigslist or freecycle for your area, thrift shops too. Many people use jeans or cotton shirts before they progress to other fabric lines. I'd like to suggest that you master that infamous 1/4 inch seam allowance to make piecing easier. Best Wishes to you and your hubby, hope he joins in to help you this time too.

Welcome from the Gainesville area!

I think it's great that you're going to recycle clothing. My mother used to do that.

There are a lot of easy patterns you can use. There are several websites that have free patterns. Just keep looking until a pattern strikes your fancy. Here are a few websites to get you started:
