Hello. I am new here, and somewhat new to quilting. So far I have only made several lap quilts and a pillow case. I've been working on a log cabin quilt as big as Egypt. My question is this, I plan on hand quilting it so I can say that I did it all myself from start to finish. What is the best quilting frame for a very large quilt?

I'm sorry I can't answer your question about the frame but welcome to the quilting board.

I don't have a hand quilting frame so I am going to watch and see what is recommended. Hand quilting is on my list of "must do". |

Hello, welcome and happy quilting from Germany!
I am a hand quilter and I work in a hoop on a floor stand, not in a frame. But of course it is a matter of personal choice. You can use the search function here on the board and check the section "Hand Quilting" on the main side and I am sure you will get a lot of tips. |
Hello from Western Mountain Maryland !! :-D
I am a hand quilter, I have a frame from the Grace Company, it will do quilt sizes from crib to queen. You can do a search here or google quilting frames. There are different ones & different companies. There are a lot of hand quilters here, so you will get a lot of ideas about frames. Good luck in your search !! :-D |

Hello, and welcome from Michigan!

Welcome Lindsay! My frame is a very old one...about 35 years old and made of wood. It fits up to a king size quilt.
The problem with that is you have to have the room lengthwise to set it up. I love it though! |
welcome from se TX -- I don't know about floor hoops or stands, but I am currently quilting a biggish quilt using a 12x20 inch oval hoop -- it is more maneuverable than my bigger oval, round, or square hoops , allthough it needs to be repositioned often -- it's still a bear to tug around

Hello and welcome from Pennsylvania. I hand quilt and use a hand frame and I also have a hoop that is on a floor stand. I use both. When I'm tired, I do prefer the smaller one so I can sit back in a comfy chair. :)

Hello! Welcome to the Board from Minnesota!

WELCOME from the Texas Hill Country - You're gonna LOVE this msg. board - filled w/caring, sharing, friendly quilters!!!!
Hand quilting is all I've ever done. I have a 3 rung frame over 20 yrs old, made here in TX that I saw MANY YEARS ago at a Houston Intl. Show, & love it. If you do a search on quilt frames you will see a lot of different style, from VERY FANCY to pretty basic. A few are Bedford & Ulmer - We'll be anxious to see some of your work on here. Have a blessed evening & may all your quilts be filled w/love. |

Hello and welcome from southern WV....I've hand-quilted for over 30 years and am just now learning to machine quilt. I hand quilt smaller items, from wall quilts to baby quilts, in a large oval hoop. For the full to king quilts I use a floor hoop from Hinterburg....it's a 30" round on a tri-foot stand. It rotates 360 degrees so it's very convenient and doesn't take up a lot of floor space.
