Hello :)

Hello everyone :)

I'm new to this site, although I've lurked for a while, and new to quilting.

A friend is teaching me to quilt, and we have almost finished piecing the top. I've done all the sewing, but she has watched to make sure I don't make any huge mistakes. Unfortunately, a lot of the points don't match up, but I think (and hope) that will improve with time.

Although I'm new to quilting, I've either done or dabbled in many crafts. I've painted (my favorites mediums are watercolor and guache, and I hate acrylics) and sketched (I like pencil, but not charcoal) and played around with pastels. I made altered books for a while, and might go back to that. I knit some, mostly small projects, took a class yet failed to learn to crochet, completed a few cross stitch patterns and found it boring, but I like other forms of hand embroidery and still dabble in it. I tried scrap booking, but I don't have enough photos to make it worh it. I love making cards- depending on the day I might paint them or stamp them or use iris folding or embroider them.

I think quilting will be a long term hobby, though :) My problem with many crafts is that I'm too judgemental of my work, and many of the forms I've tried don't have a purpose beyond looking pretty. Quilting, though... Pretty, takes a lifetime to learn, and at the end of the project you have a useful item whose cosmetic imperfections don't injure its use.

I think I might be getting a little ahead of myself, though :) I have my next two quilts planned, and fabric for a third that I'm putting off until my quilting skills are better (Eric Carle's Hungry Cattepillar fabric- his books are my favorite children's books, and as soon as I saw the fabric I had to have it).

I love traditional quilts as well as some modern quilts, and I'm so tempted by crazy quilting.

I like you have done many craft/art mediums but when I found quilting....I've gotten rid of most of my craft supplies to make room for my quilting passion. Welcome to the quilting board. Come aboard and enjoy the ride!

I'll have to go look for it. The fabric is pretty. I just love the artwork in his books. Bright, colorful, and beautiful.

Welcome from Southern California. I have found that the Elmer's school glue stick and the Clover Wonder clips help me get my points to match.
