Howdy from Texas! It's so good to have you as a new member of the Quilting Board. You will learn soooo much here from lots of quilters with all levels of quilting skills. Ask, ask, ask as many questions as you can think of & someone will be around to help you with answers. If you haven't already, learn to take & post pictures here because we love pictures & would like to see your progress.

Welcome from Vermont. I learned many things from 4 H!

Iceblossom 09-01-2019 06:58 AM

Well hello and well met. I don't come from a family of quilters but I decided when I was 17 (my senior year in high school) that I wanted to make a quilt. That was back in 1978 and back then I found the little old quilting ladies a bit intimidating, now that I've become one I want to let you know we aren't all that bad!

The two constants in my life have been quilting and music. I hope it is the start of a life long hobby for you, and if not remember to have some fun along the way :)

Welcome AmeliaMarie75!

Another past 4-H'er here .... in Ontario, Canada.

Sure wish that we could have learned about quilting when I was in 4-H.
The clubs now are so much more exciting and interesting than were offered, back in the day! :)

Good for you for already starting a thread for help with your project ... we're here to help!

nativetexan 09-01-2019 09:36 AM

Hello and welcome from an Iowa girl!

Another past 4-H'er here. You have a lifetime of creative pleasure ahead of you.

I've been teaching my GD's to sew. This past summer I had 4 of them ages 10-15 sewing. They each made a baby quilt from my scraps and the 13 yo LA'ed 2 baby quilts. I wish I would have gotten them going at the LA sooner as school has started. But there is always snow days ahead! I look forward to seeing what you have done.

Hello from another Mountaineer! I live in Clarksburg. I think 4-H is a wonderful thing and I'm sure you will learn a lot. Keep on quilting because we need young people to carry on this tradition.

juliasb 09-02-2019 09:58 AM

I can only be wishful that someone would have be around at your age to interest me and assist me in learning to quilt. I would watch my sister (21 yrs older than me) do patchwork. I wanted so badly to learn but she live a thousand miles away from us. Jump right in ask questions to your hearts content and share your experiences with us.
Welcome aboard from SE Michigan.

NZquilter 09-03-2019 10:00 AM

Welcome to quilting! I started quilting at 15 too, taught myself from library books. I sure wished I had a teacher/coach! My first quilt is quite a mess. :D

Sharonquilts 09-03-2019 11:59 AM

Welcome from North Carolina. I didn't begin quilting until I was 66 and I'm self taught. At your age you have a great opportunity to learn so much ... and this Board has some amazng quilters with a great deal of knowledge. Good luck with your new adventure.
