Hello from Tulsa, OK

Hi to all the great quilters that I have been reading on the QB for the last year or so. I joined awhile ago but never got around to "joining in" or introducing myself so with the coming of the new year I decided to become a more active member of the board and jump right in. I am pushing myself to become more involved and pick up my life again. I lost my husband of 32 years August 2012 to cancer. The past year has been a blur but with the coming of 2014 I am ready to push onward with more quilting, sewing and becoming involved with others. I have sewn since I was 10, made all my girls and my clothing for years but stopped about 15 years ago. I grew up in Appalachia (WV) where there was lots of quilting going on even in the 60's before quilting had its' revival. My mother is a quilter still at 85. I have been actively quilting on my own for about 20 years. I have a sit down Tin Lizzie that I free motion quilt on. I love scrappy projects and often help quilting mother's quilt tops. I hope to connect here since I have never been good at attending our local guild. Look forward to lots of great friends, projects and sharing.

Welcome from Texas

Misty's Mom,
Thanks for the welcome. I notice the byline at the bottom of your post about organ donation. My husband had three bone marrow transplants for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. The last two were done at Baylor Medical center in Dallas. In his case they were not successful and he passed August 2012 but I am so glad your husband is doing well post transplant. You are both to be commended....I know the path is long and hard on both recipient and care giver. Glad to have made the connection

Welcome from Victoria Australia.

My DH and I have been to Tulsa many times and love your city. You have some of the best museums and Art Gallerys. We took friends there on our last visit and they hope to return too. On our next visit we would love to travel a little further south and spend some time around the lakes district.

Sorry to hear of the passing of your DH. My quilting group add a 2 1/2 inch strip of fabric to a ball each meeting and when the ball weights 2lb we make a scrap quilt which we give to Cancer Research for fund raising.

Machine or hand stitching will be a fun adventure for you to start off 2014.
