Hi all. I've just stumbled upon this amazing forum after trying for ages to find one in the UK - unsuccessfully. Anyway, I'm almost a complete beginner. I have most of the equipment I need and know a few of hte basics, but I'm looking forward starting my quilting journey!

Welcome from California.
You came to the right place... we all love to quilt! We do it at different skill levels and various amounts of time per week. I myself am sadly on a break due to poor health, but I still enjoy reading and viewing photos and the camaraderie of all the friendly quilters here.

What part of the UK are you in? My husband and I were in the Wirral last May -- his dad is from Liverpool originally, and they have family all over Merseyside.

Elle, I was born in Wirral. A place named Bromborough.Went to school there also. I also have lots of friends back there although no siblings or parents. Liverpool is a place unto itself. Different accent, if your'e from Liverpool your accent is known all over the world. Lots of special slang, and yes, sometimes hard to understand. The Wirral is opposite to Liverpool across the river Mersey. Oh My!!!Geography lesson in a quilting group.

You know, I was SO disappointed when I met FIL for the first time and found out he has almost no accent left! He sounds like he's maybe from Boston ... definitely not English, though.

btty 04-20-2009 06:03 AM

Sanveann. I addressed my mail to Elle and meant it to be for you. Sorry, just put it down to old age catching up. Where on the Wirral did you stay? We may even have friends in common.

Ducky 04-20-2009 06:35 AM

Welcome, Jools. This is a wonderful site with incredible blocks and quilts to gaze at, and so very many nice (and funny) people. Enjoy!

Btty, we stayed in Hoylake, in a very nice flat right on the beach. It was lovely! My husband's uncle and his family (they have two little ones) are in Heswall, so we went there a lot to visit, as well. The Wirral was just lovely! (We also went to London, which I have to confess I didn't like at all.)

Hello, and welcome from St. Louis, Missouri, right in the middle of the US. I visited Manchester, Chester, the Cottswolds, and some other lovely places when I was in England. I must say, I did have difficulty being on the correct side of the road when I did a little driving! :?
You have found a wonderful resource for quilting and other assorted topics! And we love learning geography even more now becasue it means something!
