Hello from the UK

Hi everybody!

I'm Christina, 31 from the UK - near London.

I've been sewing for quite a while, had a course at school when I was 12, wasn't really any good, tried some costumes later, even worse and started again 4 years ago. So far I've mainly made clothes, bags and purses.

This week I've made a quilted blanket for my friend's baby that is due in September. Didn't look too great so not sure if she will ever receive it but we'll see.

I've watched quite a lot of patchwork and quilting videos on YouTube these last few days and thought this was a great idea to get rid of all my scraps. Too tiny for clothes or bags, but too big to throw away. But perfect for patchworking!

I'm going to browse through the board for inspirations and help and hope to be able to show off a great quilt top soon.

Lots of love
Christina :)

Am I the only one from this side of the earth? :D
I mean, I know quilting is more famous over there but I kinda feel lonely he he

Thank you for the nice welcome ;)

Hello and welcome. I live in Hereford, there are quite a few Brits on the board, but not all are frequent posters. i am a self taught 'sewer', mostly from books, you tube etc, and I have made quite a few quilts now. Thoroughly enjoyable habit, I love checking out charity shops for fabric and I like to re-use as much as possible.
I hope you enjoy looking at all the lovely works that members show on here, and you are bound to pick up all sorts of tips.

Welcome from Oklahoma.

The Boxed Squares pattern is great for scraps. This is something I drew up in my EQ5. The centers can be different colors also.

This is one of my favorite simple blocks to work on. Currently I have a stash of B/W ones.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville site has a free pattern tab and it has a lot of good patterns for scraps.

Welcome Christina, I am from PA in the US. I am amazed at the numbers of young women from the UK that sew incredible clothing, I personally haven't done any garment sewing in years. The only clothing I make and wear is pajamas but I am getting inspired by the women I'very already mentioned.

Welcome from far away California...I am glad to see young ladies learning to piece/quilt. My daughter 37, started when she was in her 20's and now my granddaughter started, she is 28. People who receive hand made items really like them because they are made especially for them. I still keep the first quilt that I made, didn't know that corners needed to meet.:D

Welcome from hot and sunny Arizona! A lady named Donna Poster has some excellent "tip" videos on YouTube. I have learned a lot from watching her.
