I just joined this group and am looking forward to getting lots of great quilting tips from all of you nice folks. I'm originally from New York but live in north Georgia now. I recently lost my job and am looking for a new career but in the meantime I have four quilting projects going on and am having a great time letting my creative juices flow again!

Hi! I grew up in New Rochelle in Westchester County, just north of the Bronx. I graduated from SUNY at Oswego and lived for a short time in the Elmira area when I got out of college. Later on I moved to Suffern in Rockland County and then up to Highland Falls in Orange County between Bear Mountain and West Point. I moved down to Georgia in 2002 and don't miss the snow one little bit! Where in New York are you?

Welcome from a life-long Georgian. New Rochelle was where my husband's grandparents and parents lived for many years. As for not missing the snow...wasn't yesterday just beautiful? That is probably the most snow I can ever remember seeing!

Hi JoAnn, and welcome from another Georgia girl!! Glad to have you with us.

Some of us from the board are attending the Sewing and Quilting Expo at the Gwinnett Center on Thursday, March 11. We would love to have you join us there and meet face to face. What do you say???

My husband's parents know just about everyone in Canton since they have lived there for over forty years. I wouldn't be surprised if they know your family. Small world!

New Rochelle was a beautiful city back in the day. We even had a Bloomingdale's department store with a fabric department. I can remember an absolutely gorgeous floral linen fabric that my Mom and I bought there. She made the most beautiful dress for me with it. We lived down near Hudson Park right up the street from the marina. Where did your husband's family live in New Rochelle?

steelecg 02-13-2010 05:41 PM

hI, I'm in Texas and have only begun quilting since I retired and moved from Nashville. I find quilters to be great people and what a rewarding way to meet with people.

steelecg 02-13-2010 05:42 PM

I have read a lot of things on this site and have gotten some wonderful tips. I do have a question about how does becoming a regular member work?

Oh, I would absolutely love to go and thanks so much for the invitation but, unfortumately, Thursday is the day that I have to report to the Dept. of Labor unemployment office to attend a mandatory re-employment workshop and to verify that I am actively seeking employment. Now, honestly, which activity seems like more fun??? I am so jealous!!!

Oh, I am so disappointed! If the department of labor changes their mind and wants to meet with you on another day, please PM me and I will give you details about our get together.

Hi JoAnn, and welcome from another 'Yankee' in Georgia girl!! Glad to have you with us. Anyone attending the Expo in Atlanta on Sat March13th that would like to meet for lunch at Sweet Tomatoes? It is only one exit away, easy to get to and get back from. It is a wonderful all you can eat salad bar with soups, pasta, baked potatoes, breads, fruits, and dessert for one price. Wish I could be there Thur. too, but can't go until Saturday.

My husband is from Armonk, we lived in Mt. Kisco when we first married. We spent many years in Middletown and I worked at WCMC in Valhalla and Arden Hill in Goshen.

We are in Nashville now, after a few moves....I do not miss snow at all either!!

Welcome! I am new here also.
