I would like to make my friend matching quilts for her twins. They are still in the hospital as they are only just over 3 pounds each. I was thinking of the same pattern (D9P) but different color combinations. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Boys, girls, one of each?

Sounds good to me- or you could even use the same fabric but different placement- does that make sense ? So the fabric that gets cut up on one is opposite from the other

Congrats on the babies

Welcome to the board from Southern California!

Sounds like a wonderful idea!

My friend had a boy and a girl.

Sounds like a wonderful idea. The label will also distinguish which one is whose. I made two matching quilts for my neighbor's twins. They are boy/girl twins and now three years old. I'm currently making their "big boy/girl" quilts. I will make only one more for each - their wedding quilts.

Have loads of fun making them!

Hello and welcome from Ontario. Many fabric lines come in pink and blue colour lines, so you could use the same fabric and pattern with different colours that way, or if you are using fabric you already have you could pull a different colour from fabric for each border and/or binding.

I have a kit that makes two tops at the same time, it uses the same fabrics for each but in reversed positions. Very quick and easy!

Hope the babies are doing okay and get to come home soon!

Welcome to the board. Another option is use the same fabrics but different patterns.

Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D
Some fabric lines may have more than one colorway, so they can be identical, just different colors :D:D:D

Welcome to the Board...any colors that you choose will be great. AndiR's pattern looks great too.

Check out Moda BakeShop- look for lawn chair quilts. You can use the same fabric line to make 2 quilts- a girl and a boy. I keep going back because I love the look of the quilts. It's on my list somewhere....

I was wondering if you wanted a pattern or size of the different quilts. Are you looking to make a full-size crib quilt or preemie quilts?

If for a preemie, a 24x24 or 24x30 is more than sufficient. If its a possibility that they could be in the hospital for a time, this is a very nice option. The parents (I know this sounds weird) would rub the quilt on themselves to get their scent on it and that way the babies become familiar with the parents scent and it comforts them.
