Then I bet you know where Harlan county is. My dad was a coal miner there. My sister gave me several large blocks with a coal miner holding a pick wants me to make into a quilt or something.

Welcome from Utah.

Hi Cookie, and thank you for the welcome. My Dad and three brothers worked for the Benuhm/Lynch(misspelled) mines their entire careers. We were in Harlan Co. as much as Letcher. My DH & I know every inch of those hills. One of my goals into quilting has been taking pics and using a lot of old newspaper articles to design a quilt to honor all the coal miners back in the boom days.

That would make a beautiful quilt. Did you go to Hall High school if so we have a web page you could be invited to.

Sorry Cookie aka, KYangel, No We were from Letcher Co. My Sis went to nursing school in Harlan, hence the reason I spent so much time over there, and shopping in Cumberland on Paydays.
