I love to piece my quilt tops, but no one really offers much help on how to choose a quilting pattern, I have not had enough exposure to the designs available. Does anyone have a "rule of thumb" approach that they can share, I do know how to stitch in the ditch, but that is just not a very creative design most of the time.. thanks, I am anxious to be a part of this board. Bev

Hello and welcome from SW Iowa. Glad to have you here. I just pick the pattern I think will complement the quilt.

I was once told that if your piecing is a lot of straight lines, to pick a curvy quilting motif, and if your piecing is a lot of curved lines, to pick a more angular motif.

You can also audition quilting lines by drawing or tracing onto Glad press n seal and laying it over your top.
