This is all new to me! My latest interest is learning to make miniature quilts, and for that I think I really need to learn paper piecing. How hard is that? Antique dolls have been my hobby for the past 30 years or so, and I'm looking for a new interest that will play along with them.

My experience so far has been in trying to make Log Cabin quilts, and get the blocks to all come out the same size! So far, I've not achieved that, but I will probably die trying! It's sort of like learning to make Chinese food for my husband. He said most people would give up after 3 or 4 tries, but not me!

Welcome to the board, from St. Louis! I have made porcelain dolls and still have my molds and kiln, but got interested in quilting, and....... well, they are gathering dust! :?
Paper piecing is not difficult, but does require some patience to get started! Once you get the hang of it, it is the greatest! I just completed a king sized pp quilt and it is gorgeous. Actually it is my avatar! Called St. Paul. Quilters cache has some great patterns and a practice page, also. There are lots of tutorials to help you get started. Paper piecing and foundation piecing are essentially the same thing. Foundation piecing is on stamped fabric and is from the front, and paper piecing is where you sew to paper on the back side. I know that is clear as mud. Check out the tutorials. :lol: :lol:

You will really love it here. I to used to make porcelain dolls but now my passion is quilting. Don´t think I would have the patience for minatures though. We have a tutorial section which might be of help, or just ask there is always someone to help out with any questions you might have.

I have bought several books about paper piecing and minis, but it would really help if I can find a local class to teach it. Lebanon has one quilt shop, and they are very helpful. I think they'll have a class before too long for this newbie.

It's been a while! But I'm back! I have now learned how to paper piece! Used it for several small quilts already, and love it. Will be teaching my doll club ladies how to do it come November.. Finished my first full size (Queen) quilt for my granddaughter. She loves it! Used all bright, beautiful batiks in her favorite colors - teal, blues, greens, and some orange. Thought I'd never get it finished, but did eventually. Wish I'd kept a picture of it to post for you all to see!
