Wow... lots of mainers! I'm originally from Maine, looking to move back.... but you see, I married a great guy... who happens to be a Floridian!

Mardens... and the quilting fabrics there... are one of my MUST HIT stops when I visit. OMGoodness.... like nothing else. I have 3 closets full ... and about 1/2 of that is Mardens. !!! A Maine institution...

Speaking of other institutions in Maine... anybody on this board remember the (now closed) Oronoka restaurant in Orono Maine.... ??? wow. Big steaks... .big quilts....

Welcome...to our newest mainer on the board!

Welcome from another Mainer.
This is the best group, so kind, supportive and knowledgeable.
What part of Maine? I am just outside of Belfast ( or will be when it warms up and all the snow melts)
Welcome.

Welcome.

Buckport by chance? Have you been to the top of the Narrows observatory/bridge? Pretty cool. That and Ft Knox...especially cool right now... lol.

bucksprt 03-12-2011 08:17 PM

Lived in Bucksport for 18 yrs. Moved to just outside Belfast.
LOL The bridge my husband dislikes to even cross. Have never been up in the tower. My son & DGD have, nice view from photo's I have seen. Never could understand all that money for a bridge that only can handle 1 lane of trafficc each way. A real bottle neck with heavy traffic or any problems on the bridge. Don't miss crossing it all the time, in fact I don't miss Bucksport at all. Love Belfast area. Originally from central Maine, Auburn & Greene area.
Enjoying warm sunny Fl for another month or so before heading home.

I too do a lot of charity quilts, but do other things too. I make quilts for family, pocketbooks, table runners, etc. I love to sew, especially quilting.
I've done several memory quilts with pictures. It's really quite easy. You have to purchase the fabric used for photos ( you can get it at the quilt shops or on- line ) . It isn't cheap so be careful and print it out on paper first to make sure it's what you want. At least that's what I do. You just follow the instructions on the package it comes in. I've never had a problem with it.

When I was there I had to ship a huge box back home because I couldn't fit all the great fabrics in my suitcase. I was all around the state so I got to visit 3 of the Mardens. I liked the one in Presque Isle the best. Great place.
