Hi! I am Barb C. I have been quilting for 2 1/2 years and am totally addicted! I love scrappy quilts. I have amassed a large stash and I love making quilts with what I have on hand. I participate in a 5" charm swap each month with friends, so I love finding ways to use those. Looking forward to sharing ideas and learning more and more about this wonderful obssession we all share! Barb C.

Hi Barb.....I to love scrappy quilts. I have soooo much fabric on hand to use. I think I could quilt for quite a while with what I have. Go to Quiltville.com and scroll down until you see on the left "free scrap quilts". There are lots of ideas there. If you have any others you can share I would love it. Strip quilting is a way also to use up scraps, right down to the tiniest piece. Have fun surfing!

I LOVE the Quiltville site... discovered it this summer. I have a strip quilt in the works.. had to set it aside to finish up Christmas gifts and such.

Scrap quilts are great. Anything goes! I still find it hard to coordinate fabrics and scrap quilts are a great solution -- The only trouble is that after I finish a scrap quilt the remaining scraps seem to have multiplied.

Pattysue. I thought I was the only one that finishes a scrap quilt and my scrap pile grows..... Glad to see there are others out there that have the same problem. I am making I spy quilts also which uses lots of scraps too, and my stash grows just from using scraps. Its amazing... But it does take some novelity fabrics so everytime I see something that will work I buy it. Nice thing about those tho, is the remnants work for that and I can get a discount. You don't have to have but can, use all the same fabric. The joy of I spy quilts.

My favorite site and one I use all the time for patterns and blocks is quiltercache.com She has everything you could want in there and new ones every now and then. So its nice to use her site. You will never run out of block patterns. She also shows you finished quilts from different people which is nice, you can see how it looks done up. So ideas galore.

Will let you all go

Rita,

My oldest grand daughter (14 yrs. old) loves cats. About 6 years ago I started collecting cat fabrics to make her a cat I Spy. By the time I started making the quilt for her 2004 Christmas present I had amassed over 90 fabrics with 400 different cats. (I never saw a cat fabric that I didn't like!!!) The fabrics which had cats too big to be cut into small hexagons, I pieced for the back. Even the label was a cat! I joined hexagons with paw print fabric. One of the pieces had a mouse. I entered the quilt in several local quilt shows and challenged viewers to find the mouse. This is definately the most fun-to-make quilt to date.

I discovered Quilter's Cache yesterday and already ordering a pattern.

Hi, I'm Marcia from Mississippi. I started quilting with a church quilting guild about 6 years ago. We now have our own quilting club at my church. I love it. We have only just begun.

Hi from North Mississippi. What part of the state are you in? I'm just South of Memphis.)

crafftygrandma 05-22-2007 03:38 PM

Hi, I'm down south. Close to West Mobile. I'm in Hurley. Have you ever heard of Hurley?

Carla P 05-22-2007 06:33 PM

No, I can't say as I have, but I usually close my eyes while going through Mobile... out of fear of the looming tunnel ahead... I hate that tunnel!! (Not Mobile, just the tunnel)

crafftygrandma 05-23-2007 06:24 AM

I don't care much for the tunnel either, or the causeway going across the Mobile Bay. Hurley is West of there though. It's nice becuase I can go to Mobile to shop or the Pascagoula, or get on I-10 and go the Biloxi if I want to.

Debbie Murry 05-23-2007 06:27 AM

I thought Mobile was in Alabama. Does Miss**** have one too. I have relatives in Mobile, Al.

crafftygrandma 05-23-2007 06:29 AM

No the tunnel is in Mobile, I just live about 15 minutes outside of Mobile in Mississippi. Hurley is close to the Alabama State Line. I was raised in Mobile though.

Here is a quiltaholic from Hattiesburg. Yes, I know Hurley. I love piecing quilt tops but tend to pile them up so that I can make another one. That means I have many tops and few quilts.

I quilt with a few ladies from my church. We have quilted a few tops for other people. We had 4 tops given to us by someone in the church and we are quilting them to sell. It's harder to quilt someoneelses work because they tend to not be square. We had to sandwich or latest work 4 times before we finally gave up and decided to leave it like it is.

We are not perfect. In fact we find that not being so perfect makes our work more interesting.

I love Hurley. It's a great place to live. Really close to Mobile, Ala. so we can do serious shopping there or go to Pascagoula or Biloxi. I get to go thru Hattiesberg every now and then.

Keep up the quilting. I h ave found all kinds of good information on the internet. I'm constantly looking and printing out things for our group. Maybe you can find someone to help you quilt your tops. I have two that I'm quilting now that I made for myself. I just work on the one I feel like working on at the time. Crafftygrandma from Hurley

Do you mind telling the name of your church in Hurley? My husband's sister lives in Hurley.

Full Life Assembly of God of 514

crafftygrandma 09-11-2007 11:38 AM

Oh, excuse me, it's 614, not 514

quiltingmimipj 09-11-2007 11:42 AM

She goes to an Assembly of God, but it is a different name. It seems like it has Springs in the name.

crafftygrandma 09-12-2007 05:15 AM

She probablly goes to Magnolia Springs. It's not far from Full Life. Ask her to ask about busy hands quilters at our chruch.
