Hi from New Hampshire!

I’m a retired ER nurse after 40 years, sewing since I was 10 but always said I would learn to quilt when I retired. I started with a quilt for my grandson and completely destroyed my 28 year old Viking machine trying the meander pattern. Ok, I ran over a safety pin, knocked the belt off the drive wheel and it’s never been the same since, haha. Thankful for online tutorials and you tube videos where you can find almost any information, but really missing a community and happy I found this space. I am keenly interested in learning on a long arm once pandemic rules allow. Fascinated by all kinds of techniques. Nice to meet you all!

Hi Sandradee, and welcome from sunny Southern California. I think you'd like a quilt guild. It would give you community, learning opportunities and new friends. Often they have mini-groups or friendship groups that specialize in different kinds of quilting and maybe you could find one that is for "newbies." With your sewing background, it won't take you long to learn. I think the main difference between most kinds of sewing and quilting is the need for accuracy.

And isn't retirement wonderful? Now you have the time for all those things you wanted to do but couldn't.

Welcome from sunny Florida! I really enjoy this board and I have learned a lot by participating in block of the month and various challenges. There is always someone to help you when you have a question of problem. Happy Quilting.

Welcome from West Virginia! Another way to make quilty friends is to take a class at your local quilt shop, if you have one.
