Hi, I've been quilting for about 10 years off and on. I was directed to this site from someone at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Patternsearchandswap/ and decided I had to join. I miss attending the quilting guild I used to belong to. It moved to a smaller venue a couple of years ago that was further from home and I just stopped going. I'm hoping this site will fill that void.

I have two gorgeous children, a DD 15 and a DS almost 13, and a wonderful hubby who doesn't complain too much about the amount of money I spend on fabric.

I don't have as much time to quilt as I would like, with two teens in sports, and studying to become a cardiology tech, but I squeeze in what I can.

Hi and welcome cynde! Looks like I'm not the only one up late tonight. :) Isn't it nice to have a dh who doesn't mind that a little (or not so little) goes out now and then to support our habit? I hope you find the time now and then to indulge in your passion for quilting, but it sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now. I hope you enjoy the little family of quilters here. :)

WOW! You do beautiful work cynde. They're all so different and I love every one of them. Excellent!! :)

cynde 08-05-2007 07:29 AM

I have to get the details for the next set of photos, ie whose pattern, which class they were from.

cynde 08-05-2007 07:31 AM

Thank you lin, I would love to post some of my earlier work too, even tho it's not as good. But those photos were taken before I got a digital camera and we don't have a scanner.

How do you put the picture in with your identification so it show up when you post?

mimisharon 08-05-2007 07:45 AM

Hi Cynde,
Go to the pictures section of the board, there are directions on the front of that board to tell you how to do it all.

Welcome to the best quilting Guild in the world, read all the boards, do searches for specific needs, and share share share your knownledge/experience with us. We like that!

Welcome,
Sharon

Love those! I'm working on a log cabin now and was thinking of appliqueing something in the center - you've done it beautifully.

annmarie 08-05-2007 08:12 AM

Cynde - your quilts are beautiful. can't wait to see more.

Steve 08-05-2007 08:19 AM

Wow, beautiful work cynde. If this is any indication of your work, remind me when I need a cardiology tech to call you. I hope you find some time to stitch at least a little bit. I keep trying to find spare time myself, but think someone else must have cornered the market!

live2teach 08-05-2007 08:23 AM

Hi I'm new to this site also, altho not new to quilting, have been at it for 50 years now. Having my 70th birthday in a couple of weeks, looking for my 18th Great Grandbaby in a few months. I retired last year and we do a lot of gadding about. So now I take my piece by hand pieces with me to quilt in the car. Some day plan on staying home &cleaning my sewing room. Billie from Austin,Texas

Welcome Billie :) 50 Years? Wow, that's wonderful. I sure wish I had started that young. I'll never get to do all the quilts that are running around in my head. LOL Can't wait to see some of your work.

cynde 08-06-2007 07:19 AM

Thanks for all your welcomes I feel like I've walked into a quilting bee in someones kitchen and I've just been offered coffee. I love it.

Billie, wow 50 years, I bet you've made tons of baby quilts with your 18th great grandchild on the way. Keep it up and show off some pictures when you can.

ButtercreamCakeArtist 08-06-2007 07:30 AM

Welcome Cynde and Billie!
I hope you are having fun here. It's almost as much fun to be on the Quilter's Board as it is to be creating that special quilt!

julia58 08-07-2007 04:55 PM

Welcome, We are really lucky to have you join, your work is just beautiful to look at. Can't wait to see more from you. You are one talented quilter.

Cathe 08-08-2007 04:46 AM

Cynde, are you in Washington?

cynde 08-08-2007 07:33 AM

Cathe, I'm just north of Washington, in BC, why?

cynde 08-08-2007 10:07 AM

Thanks for your welcome Heather, I did post more quilts in the pictures area. Under "some of my work" I am going to add some more pictures to that today, I just found my camera and realized I didn't have any pictures of a quilt I had made for my grandmother (that's a switch isn't it).

ETA I just realized I replied to a post from the bottom of the first page

When we lived in WA, my middle son had a first grade teacher who spelled her name the way you do. (that would have been about 15 years ago). She was an awesome teacher - the best any of my boys ever had - and I liked her personally. She moved across the state and we moved out east, and we lost contact with her. I was just hoping... but I can see you have children, and she did not. I look forward to getting to know you, too!

cynde 08-08-2007 12:23 PM

It's not a very common spelling as you know. I'm named after my mom's best friends (from when she was a teen) little sister. I was a tour guide for five years at a pulp mill and met about 2000 people per summer (about 10 000 total) and one person that came through had the same spelling as me. So I only know of 2 other people. I wonder if the teacher you know was my tour guide guest, most of our guests were from the states and a lot from Washington.

Hi. I am new to this site also. Quilting is my passion. Several years ago I bought a quilting book, fabric and headed to the machine. Loved the entire process from the beginning. Never took a class just opened the books and gave it a try!
Some of the quilts are great, others I wonder where my head was when I picked out the fabric!
The new thing I am trying is hand quilting. Yikes!! Really sore fingers and lots of frustration. Yes, I did get a thimble (several) but I just can't seem to get the hang of it. The past 6 weeks have given me more headache then most anything I have done so far. Not going to give up. I will conquer this!!! (maybe).
Let me know what you are working on. Love to talk to other quilters.

Dianne

Cynde, Welcome to the site. Your Quilts are Really wonderful. What lovely colors and Patterns. Keep up the great work and keep us posted. :-) :-) :-) Pam

lin 09-06-2007 07:46 AM

Hi Dianne and welcome. I'm glad you're not going to give up on the hand quilting! It just takes time like anything else. Before you know it you'll be right at home with a thimble, hoop, frame or whatever method you choose to use. What type needle are you using?

"Betweens" are the best for handquilting and they come in different sizes. You might want to start with one of the larger ones until you're comfortable with the needle and thimble. I can't quilt without a thimble. Some can, but I'm lost without mine. Even with that though, you'll get pricked on the finger under the quilt and you just have to be patient for that to build a little callous. Then it's more comfortable. Don't fret about the size or eveness of your stitches to begin with. Just try to relax and enjoy the process. You'll get better and better with time and practice! Good luck.

mandylifeboats 09-06-2007 09:38 AM

signitwright 09-06-2007 02:59 PM

Hi Dianne, welcome, welcome, welcome. Hand quilting does get easier with practice. Take an asperin for the headaches and pick up a needle, quilt and be happy. :D :D :D Pam

signitwright 09-06-2007 03:04 PM
