I've been searching the web for information on machine quilting frames and stumbled upon this site. Wow does it look like there's lots and lots of info!!

I am a self taught quilter with a looooong way to go. I'd really like to find a shop or group in the Raleigh area where I could better my limited quilting skills and also learn how to machine quilt on a frame. I learn much better from being shown than from just reading.

I'm looking forward to many hours browsing this site!

Hi Lori, I also joined the forum today and I am also in NC, I live in Wendell. Like you I am a self taught quilter witha lot more to learn. I have finished two quilts and have one that i am quilting now and also have three or four quilt tops finished ready for quilting. I have just a regular sewing machine that is not good for quilting so I do all the quilting by hand.
I think we will learn alot from these girls in the forum.

Welcome! You're right, there's a lot to learn from and be inspired by!

We also have fun and lean on each other in hard times. We consider each other a part of our quilting family!

Welcome Lori! I now live in MN but lived in NC for a total of 7 years over the course of about 15 years! Classes are great and when I get my quilt frame in September, we can learn together online!

Thanks everyone for your warm welcomes! I'm looking forward to lots of reading and learning (just have to make sure I get work done too! 8)

I'm going to pick up a Grace Quilting Frame tonight, I can't wait. I found a used one and I am soooo looking forward to not having to wrestle my quilts around on the table anymore.... yeah!!

Craftybug: We aren't very far apart at all, I live in Raleigh. Once our youngest is off to college, we are planning on moving to the south side of town, Garner, Fuquay or so. Gotta get out of the 'burbs. Congrats on doing the hand quilting, I don't have the patience for that..

Hello and welcome from Washington...... You love it here AND learn alot too... I'm sorta kinda new. I started quilting in May. Like you I found this by accident. It was the best "accident" I ever made. I love it here....

Glad you found a frame, have fun with it! I lived in Apex a loooong time ago. There are some great talented quilters in NC, and several others from the triangle on here.

I pick up my Grace frame in September ! So excited for you to have yours now!! Also, my father is visiting me in MN and he lives in Holly Springs, about 5 miles from Fuquay!

I have to be careful to not spent so much time on this site that I'm neglecting my sewing!!

Its fun finding quilters in the area. I've just been trying to learn via books and such, but it's nice to know there are others in the area.

Now that the 64 bypass is done, we've thought about Knightdale as a reasonable commute too... Ah well, DD has one more year of High School, so we're stuck for now.

Picked up the frame last night, but can't assemble it until my niece leaves next week to go back to Washington. Then I'll have my room back. Can't wait!! (well, not for her to leave, but.... you know....)

LoriJ 08-06-2008 06:03 AM

Will do. Gotta dig into DH's computer and get pics of some of the quilts I've done... not many, but ya gotta start somewhere, right?

Lori--welcome. I too am in Raleigh and you have a few options open to you. Depending on where in Raleigh, you are located, there is the Bernina store on Glenwood ave, Wish Upon a Quilt on Westgate Rd in Raleigh and another store out on Strickland Rd in Raleigh, but can't remember its name. There is Capital Area Quilters Guild and also Joann's on Falls of the Neuse. Welcome again and we definitely need to meet for coffee!
Vicki

LoriJ 08-07-2008 05:18 AM

Hey thanks for the names. I've been going to the Joann's, but didn't know about the others. I'm up on the north eastish part of town not far from Triangle Town Center.

Hi there! I'm a brand new quilter, and I'm from Cary. There's a quilt shop in downtown Cary (Etcetera Crafts) that I really like, and I know they offer lessons. There's another shop in Apex (right off of 64), but I haven't been in there yet.

This site helped me find shops in the area:

Hope this helps! It's nice to talk to other quilters around here.
