I am new to this forum. I enjoy quilting but mainly the by hand variety. I take various family members to Drs. appts so I hand piece while I wait. Am hoping that I can get some great quilting tips and ideas from this site. Looking forward to getting some quilting friends.

Hi Cathy, and welcome from Texas.
|
Hi Cathy, welcome from Canada. :)
|
Glad to be welcomed from both ends of the spectrum. Texas and Canada. Warm and cold areas.
My picture is the layout of the quilt I am working on for my 5 year old niece. Finished one for her 2 year old sister last year. The finished one was of all vintage kid prints, this one is inner circle is vintage kid prints and then an outer border of a print that goes with the inner print. I am always on the lookout for vintage kid prints. (or replicas) |
Hi Cathy and welcome from southern Indiana. I think you will like it here and will make lots of new friends :-) :-)
|
I am impressed that you do "hand" stuff! I use my machine to piece and quilt...and I hand embellish with embroidery and/or beads. etc.
Welcome to this forum! |
Welcome from Michigan"s Upper Peninsula. I live in a border town along the Menominee River....
Your hexagon flowers are beautiful :) :) :) Piecefully yours, Kay Carlson |
I have tried to make quilt blocks and have them look good but I am off on how the finished product would look. Never happy with the blocks. So that is the main reason I do hand. I feel it is more control.
Would love to be able to use the machine for blocks just not happy with them. |
Welcome from St.Louis. I remember getting lost while deer hunting (I was supposed to be flushing out the deer - I didn't have a gun or license) up near Brantwood inPrice County a lifetime ago! My one and only time deer hunting! It is beautiful there, but I really enjoy the weather here better.
|
Thanks for the welcome from MO. I have a BIL that lives in Columbia, MO. Haven't ever been there but he says it is nice.
As for deer hunting....I don't. The closest I have come is when the hunters shot at the deer in our yard and the bullets embedded in our deck. Too close for comfort. We don't go outside during the season, people aren't very careful. So we must be. We have very beautiful and very distinct seasons here. Right now we have snowbanks that are edging up to 10 feet. And it is perfect snowmobiling. We are right on Lake Superior/the Apostle Islands. God's country for sure. |
Welcome from Southern California.
|
Welcome from Florida, where we have NO snowbanks!
|
Welcome from NE CA. Glad you found us.
|
Thanks for the so many welcomes. I feel like I will fit in here nicely.

Look on the home page here and you will see a link to Fabric Swap. Just start a thread and let everyone know what you have that you want to swap. You should get a good response. |
HI CATHY, I TOO LIVE IN WASHINGTON STATE, OLYMPIA, BUT I GREW UP IN WASHBURN, WISCONSIN. PERHAPS I KNOW YOU. I HAVE FAMILY THAT LIVES IN BAYFIELD, WASHBURN, AND ASHLAND. YES IT IS GODS COUNTRY, MY MOTHER SAID THE TEMP WAS -13 THIS MORNING WITH CHILL FACTOR OF -30. SORRY I DO MISS THE SNOW, BUT NOT THAT COLD. HAVE YOU CHECKED OUT THE BAYFIELD QUILT SHOP. SHE HAS PAPER PIECE PATTERNS FOR ALL THE LIGHTHOUSES AROUND THE ISLANDS. STAY WARM. RITA

Rita,
I have kids that went to school in Washburn. Graduated 2001 and 2004. I actually graduated from Ondossagon in '78. (Now closed of course.) That will give you an age idea. Not sure if we would know each other or not. You could PM me to see. I have gone to the Bayfield Quilt Co. Many times. Actually went on a quilt tour with a group from there, Ironwood, MI. and Solon Springs. Not sure if that is something other quilt stores do. We chose our favorite quilt store and met there in the morning. Then boarded a bus and traveled to the other stores. Were able to have drawings and prizes and food at each quilt store. It was a large tour bus for 15 of us. We enjoyed it greatly. Anyway the gift given by the BQC was paper piece patterns of the lighthouses and I have one somewhere here. Never used it as I don't care for the paper piecing method (should say I haven't tried it.) Cathy |

HI CATHY..DON'T LAUGH, I WAS IN THE CLASS OF 68 FROM ONDOSSAGON. MY SISTER JOYCE LIVES IN WASHBURN ('73) BROTHER RAY LIVES IN ASHLAND ('75) EVERYBODY KNOWS MY BROTHER. I HAVE ONE OF THE 1990 BEACONS BUT I DIDN'T FIND A CATHY. NOW THIS IS REALLY A SMALL WORLD. I GREW UP ONLY A FEW MILES FROM THE SCHOOL. I HEAR THERE IS PLANS FOR AN ALL SCHOOL REUNION IN 2010.DON'T KNOW IF WE WILL MAKE THAT. OUR PLAN IS TO BE BACK THERE FOR WASHBURN HOMECOMING THAT YEAR. HAVE A NICE DAY. WAITING TO HEAR MORE FROM YOU. RITA
|
Rita,
I am not sure if I would be in a 1990 Beacon. I have a brother that graduated in '74 and a sister in '76, then the parents decided to have more kids later. So there are like 2 batches of kids. The younger ones are 5, 12 and 16 years younger than I am. I have not gone to any of the reunions from school. I also grew up 3 miles from the Ondossagon school. Last name then was Glass. Cathy |
CATHY, YES NOW I FOUND YOU BUT IN THE BOOK CATHY IS WITH A "K". ARE YOU CLAYTON'S SISTER. HE GRADUATED WITH MY BROTHER. IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME, BUT I THINK HE CAME TO OUR HOUSE MANY TIMES. I KNOW YOU LIVED CLOSE BY, BUT DON'T REMEMBER EXACTLY. WE HAVE BEEN OUT HERE FOR OVER 30 YEARS. MY LAST NAME WAS STUART.
|
Yes, I know Ray! We call him "The Bug Man". I am sure he knows us and my husband as well. Ask him sometime. David Mesik, know David knows him pretty well.
Small world for sure. Cathy |
YES THAT'S MY LITTLE BROTHER. TOLD YOU EVERYBODY KNOWS HIM FROM ONE END OF THE COUNTY TO THE OTHER. NOW EVERYBODY IS WONDERING WHY HE IS CALLED THE BUGMAN. I'M NOT MUCH UP ON COMPUTERS SO I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE THE PM, ANY WAY I COULDN'T GET IT TO WORK, MAYBE I'M DOING SOMETHING WRONG. WHY DON'T YOU JUST EMAIL ME, I'M SURE ALL THESE FOLK DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT OUR BACK WOODS NEWS. [email protected]
HAVE A NICE DAY..MORE LATER, RITA |
Welcome from Pittsburgh, PA!!
|
hi hexagon quilter! staying warm in Florida. Glad some of you like snow. I like to feel my toes, lol!
Rita, didn't you know quilters can be a nosy bunch, lol. Of course we are interested in your backwoods banter. I think it's fantastic how you guys got on here and end up knowing same ppl. that don't happen much. |
Hi! Welcome from Oklahoma!!
|
Welcome from Dallas, Texas.
|
Hi there and welcome from another Wisconsinit. I live on the WI and MI border.
|
Hi Barb, I actually know where you live. My Grandma was from Amberg, WI. Small world again.
|
Hi quiltncrazy. Sorry we moved our chat to emails. It was sort of funny how this happened. I don't usually answer these message boards, but when cathy said where she lived, i couldn't help but find out who she is. I almost fell off the chair, with each response Cathy and I had more in common. going to the same high school and all. You have to understand how small of an area this is. Everybody know everybody. Scary how this internet works, sometimes for the good, and how it can bring people together. Glad you like the warm weather. I'm not a warm weather person. It was 25 degrees this morning here. Pussy willows are coming out and I see a few spring bulbs sticking their heads out of the ground.
|
Rita,
25 degrees with pussy willows. OH, that sounds great. A virtual heat wave. We actually had 20 below this morning at 8. It has started to warm up slightly. We won't have any of the pussy willows for about 3 months. With this cold it is even too cold to snow or snowmobile for that matter. Speaking of small world, someone else said that they were from the northern WI area. Turns out it was a small town next door to where my Grandma was from. Yeah, the internet is sometimes amazing. So are any of you joining the FQ swap or the sister swap? I am still looking for FQ or a yard or so of vintage kid fabrics. That is the fabrics that I get off on. Just love those prints. The tiny little chicks, bears or bunnies. Whatever on a pastel background. They are hard to find here in our neck of the woods. Cathy |
Welcome from MN. We're on the MN/WI border. My DH is from WI, Rice Lake Area. He has a cousin that lives in Ashland.
|
Oh boy some more back home friends, hey is there anybody out there from Olympia?? We had a trace of snow this morning, roads were real icy. It has warmed up now, getting rain and lots of wind. Pussy willows, did I say hummingbirds? They have been here all winter. Today they have to really beat their little wings, to get to the feeder. We have had them the last 4 winters. It's funny to see them when it's snowing out and so cold. One morning they huddled near the Christmas lights to get warm. Cathy I will check the next time I'm at my local shop for fabric that you are looking for. They have all vintage type fabric in their store, I think I remember seeing just what your looking for. Their web site is www.BaysideQuilting.com. There is another local shop, but I don't know their site address will check on that for you. A big Hi to all my Ashland friends. Stay warm.
