I am new to the forum.

My name is Tracey and I live in Sydney Australia. I have a 15 month old called Kaitlyn (obviously).

I have just started quilting and am doing a course in hand piecing and so far loving it.

I am looking forward to sharing and learning with/from you all.

Welcome Tracy! We're excited you decided to join and that between quilting and Kaitlyn you can give us some of your time! We'd be happy to see what you're working on and hear your insight on learning hand piecing. Did you choose it because you wouldn't have to be at the sewing machine all day?

Oh wow thanks for the lovely welcome everyone.

Celeste - I didn't choose hand piecing as such, I chose to do the course and then found out after I had enrolled that it was by hand, but I quite like it simply because I don't have to sit at a machine and do it and I also don't have the room for a machine at the moment.

Shadow Dancer - thank you, we think Kaitlyn is cute too, but at the moment she is a bit of a monster (terrible 2's and all). But we will get there.

Again thanks so much for the welcome, I have been looking around at the board and love everyone's work. I am going to attempt the woven ribbon block and see how I go with it. I am a total beginner, but can't wait to try new stuff.

Anyway enough rambling. I will see you all around the board somewhere I hope.

Tracey, would you tell us what they advise you to do for hand piecing? I started off that way 'cuz that's how my mom chose to do it then I did. I like that I do not need to keep the sewing machine out too, but realized later that my stitches were long. . .

kaitlyn's mummy 03-13-2008 10:42 PM

With the hand piecing, really there is no right or wrong. It doesn't matter if your stitches are big. My stitches aren't exactly small, but they are OK. I do however have a long history of doing cross stitches, so can sort of control my stitches, but you do get better as you go along.

As long as your pieces stay together and look OK, it should be alright. Is that sort of what you wanted to know?

Celeste 03-14-2008 07:36 PM

Yes, thank you. I'm just worried it will be easier for them to come apart... but I guess that is what the quilting will help with!
