 I started trying to teach myself to quilt while riding in a Semi with my husband the last two years. I have completed a couple of quilts (one is falling apart) and my mom told me I should use a thin batting for a stabilizer. I used this for a few quilts and have since found out that is not what I should use as I cannot iron the seams down and there is a bulge where the seams come together. I have the front of another quilt done using this technique. Does anyone have a suggestion now?

is there any way for you to use a travel iron while the truck is running so you can press your seems.

There was a lady on Simple Quilts year ago that used a sewing machine while hubby drove. she had a small sewing machine.

The batting I used for a stabilizer is the problem. I cut my material and my batting the same size and stitched it together. The result is all the seams are bulging. I thought about ripping the batting out but was hoping maybe somebody had a better idea????

HI AND WELCOME FROM MO. YOU DAID THE YOUR FIRST QUILT IS FALLING APART. IT COULD BE THE MATERIAL, SOME MATERIALS RAVEL VERY EASY. BUT SEWING YOUR MATERIAL WITH YOU BATTING OR STABLIZER TO GEATHER WILL PUCKER UNTIL YOU QUILT IT. IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE THIS PROCESS COMPLETE YOUR PIECED BLCK THEN CUT OUT YOU BATTING 1 1/2" LARGER AND A BACKING PIECE OF MATERIAL THE SAME SIZE AS THE BATTING. TAKE THE THREE PIECES AND QUILT EACH BLOCK BEFORE YOU SEW THEM TOGEATHER. SORRY I GO ON TO MUCH. ANYWAY THAT WILL WORK FOR YOU.

I am so happy to be here and have people to bounce ideas off of. I really appreciate all the suggestions I have received. I just want to quit my job, buy my sewing machine and quilt forever. I am so excited! :-)
