I have just joined and so far picked up some valuable advice and some great inspiration. I don't have many friends who quilt, so it is nice to see what people around the country are doing. I am also looking for some good online fabric shops, if anyone has some leads; here in NJ there aren't too many shops around close by.
My second quilt, all machine sewn. My favorite quilt, and I gave it away to a sick friend. One day I will re-create it. Hi Sophie,
That would be nice if you could let me know what shops you have gone to in your area - here, one about an hour away is called Aardvark, in Morris Plains, my favorite and another about 1/2 hour away is Acme Fabrics in Pequanock, but the last time I went there - they had next to NOTHING. It was sad and scary! There was a lovely shop in Closter - 15 minutes from my house, owned by a Korean woman which I loved, but she closed her shop. One other one is in River Edge which is newer, but she doesn't have a big selection, and I feel bad if I go in there and don't buy something! But none of her fabric is exceptional - too too basic and boring. In NYC there is City Quilters and Purl in the Village, but when you need something fast or need inspiration it isn't always convenient to get on the bus and go! |
Hi and welcome from Alaska. Your quilts all three are beautiful. Hard to choose a fav.

Shop on line. I have lots of places I have ordered from with good results. We had two shops near me (15 mi) but one closed so down to one. The nearest others are over 50 mi away as is JoAnns. I stash build.

Hi from Australia - I love your 2nd quilt
|
My guess is that you live north of me. We have a little shop in Howell, called Mouse Creek, which is small, but very nice. Then we have a large quilt shop in Lacey, called Quilting Possibities, which is large and wonderful. Another one I like is Olde City Quilts in Burlington. It is also quite large. The two large ones seem to keep up with all the latest trends.
But all three seem short on notions and for that I use Joanns. I will be out of the quilting pictue for the next few weeks, since my daughter is having surgery. I know I will miss my machine. Sophie |
