Hi from Texas

Hello from hot and steamy Texas - what a time I chose to learn to quilt!! :p (And what on earth did folks here DO before air conditioning??!) I'm not from here, but I married a Texan, so here I am.

I'm still working on my very first quilt, and I'm "cheating" on it, as I found a cute baby panel when I visited the quilt store! My sewing machine was in the shop for a tune up, as all I had sewed on it for 25+ years was mending, and I just couldn't wait, so I decided to try hand quilting! And I'm actually enjoying it!

After I finish this one, I have to take a break to do a wedding present in counted cross-stitch (a request), then I want to try piecing a couple of potholders. Rag quilting also looks quick & fun! I'm extremely hesitant to even consider one of those quilts with what looks like 1,000 little pieces, but I'm trying to keep an open mind. Even the *thought* of triangles scares me, but one step at a time, right?

Glad to find this board, and look forward to learning alot!

Howdy and welcome, Nancy! I'm also in Texas, a bit northeast of the Austin area. Don't be intimidated by lots of little pieces, as SOME of them are easier than they look. My first "real" quilt was a twin-sized Triple Irish Chain. It consisted of sewing together strips, then cutting those sewn strip sets, into blocks! The only "hard" part was making sure the seams matched properly . . . and that just took being careful. :)

Hi from Austin. I hear you on the hot steamy. It is hard to get motivated to make quilts when the weather is so warm.
