Toverly: Thank you. I am getting the distinct impression it may make all the difference in the world.

Quilting Candy: I wish I did. You sound so sweet and helpful. Yes, I miss some of the friends I have made in a different state and am having a hard time extending my hand in friendship. I will get there. Boonville, IN is my home now.

To all who have welcomed me: Thank you so very much! I really did not expect to receive even one reply! I am awed by so much kindness! Thank you and such great ideas. I am in southern Indiana. A class and "just do it" may be all I need!

Preeti: Thank you! I appreciate the reply and info. Love Joann's! Had not thought about their remnants. Oh dear. There I go thinking about buying something else! Not for a while. I absolutely must do some cutting and sewing on at least one project first!

You can do it. I would suggest going to Goodwill and finding a couple different pillowcases that are 100% cotton. Cut them into strips and make a simple striped placemat or runner. The idea is to cut through cheap fabric enough times to get confident, and to realize that you can do it. I can find a pillowcase for 1.50. We have ALL been afraid to ruin fabric from a miscut, but just accept that cutting is part of life--it WILL happen and it's not the end of the world. Really. You just toss the woopsie into your scrap bin and use it in something else. Only a smidge of time is lost, not money.

Thank you Kalama Quilts! Love your blog - the original! Good to hear from a pro about not being perfect, but not allowing it to stop you. I fear - that doggoned word again - I might have quit right then. Glad you did not for our world is richer for such wonderful contributions.

Zoze: you are wonderful! So great to have a reason to shop at Goodwill! I do shop there periodically for my great-granddaughter who is 2 and no knowledge of designers! Plus any time I need a new sweatshirt for walking around my yard with my pups Goodwill is where I go to get them. Have a Peke; looking to adopt another. They love so very unconditionally.
Thanks again to all who welcomed me!

Welcome from eastern Washington State! Just start! What's the worst thing that can happen??? Considering what we pay to buy treats, eat out, etc...so what if you mess up a bit in the beginning??? There's always something you can do with scraps and look at the fun you're missing out on in the meantime??? Consider this a "swift kick" and give yourself permission to "go for it"! Good luck!

RWQuilts: You and all the rest are right. If I goof it is just a learning exp - right? I certainly do feel like I am missing out on the fun of quilting. My great-grandmother and her sisters all quilted, so I grew up watching a lot of sewing. After reading the responses from all, I realize it must really sound silly to most of you. I did order a small wall quilt which is already cut. I am going to try this first. Maybe by the time I have the first one put together I will have forgotten about being scared! Yeah, right. LOL! Must be able to laugh at one's own short-comings.
