Hi y'all,
I am a newbe at 63. My Mother made wonderful Quilts. She never taught me how. I have blocks for a Flower Garden Quilt made. I machine sewed the pieces together. OOps! I didn't know to sew them, by hand, seperately. Do I need to rip seams and start over? I am looking forward to making a new quilt. I researched selecting fabric and have purchased the fabric. I am also eager to use all the information, from all you, to make this one. I also want to make a "Cathredal Window" quilt from the fabric scraps. That is the one I know how to mqke. |
Hello and welcome from Michigan! Congratulations on finding a wonderful hobby. It's never too late to start quilting and loving it! I made a grandmother's flower garden and I hand pieced it, but you CAN machine piece a flower garden. However, to get all the hexagons to lay flat and for the seams to fit together well, you should only sew to within 1/4" of the edge of each piece. It's harder to sew that set in seam if the seams are sewn from edge to edge. You picked a hard quilt for your first one, but a pretty one!

Hi from Eastern Washington. The only thing I hand sew is the binding. Probably because I never learned hand sewing.
I was doing good to learn how to run a sewing machine. |
