We kept bees for years, 4 or 5 hives. Isn't it awful what is happening to our bee friends now?
I read the other day the current estimate is the population is down 40+% now.

Welcome to the board!

Welcome from the gulf of Mexico, Corpus Christi, Tx. Twice in my life I have experienced the taste of honey from the comb. The best cleanest sweet taste ever entered my mouth and tickled my taste buds.

Welcome from Louisiana! Love that you take care of bees!

tessagin 05-20-2015 05:57 AM

Isn't it a type of mite that carries a virus attacking the bees? So sad. I used to work for a pizza shop who added fresh honey to their dough making.

Thank you for being a beekeeper ! I worry about the plight of the bees and ALWAYS buy local honey and buy beeswax every chance I get for homemade lotion bars and candles .

Welcome to Manitoba, hope you bee--come acquainted with other quilters on this forum, and who knows maybe some be in your area. I grew on farmland, had some beekeeping farms in our surrounding, I love the barley honey which has that extra spike to the honey.. It is darker than other honeys and love baking with it..

Hello and welcome from Australia. It is a worry though when a species can be so threatened.

Thank you all for your kind welcomes! It is very touching. I live in Southern Illinois and have 4 hives of bees and am hoping to get that number up to 20+ next year. I have been quilting for a couple of decades and have many Phd's (projects half done) and belong to 2 guilds and have a regular sew in day with a couple of friends so we can help each other work out the kinks on current projects (and cut for a friend who has horrible arthritis and cannot do the tiresome chore of standing and handling the cutter).

Love bees, my yard is full of them right now as my weeds are growing a bit too much and I don't spray, so my yard is a haven for butterflies and bees and anything else that wanders by :):)
