I don't think I ever introduced myself! I'm from IN.

:) I've been around for a little while and am just now getting into posting.

I'm Jackie. I live in northern Indiana (born & raised here). Attended (some) college in Chicago, then lived in the suburbs until 1994. Back in IN since. I'm married and have three kids .... two girls are in college, and my son is in high school.

A few years ago I wanted to get back into sewing and bought myself a used Viking Designer 1 machine. I love it, but still have MUCH to learn about embroidery. I've really only used it minimally and then when I get back to it I tend to FORGET how I accomplished anything on it. I liked sewing in high school and even made some of my clothing!

I still have my first sewing machine, a Singer Genie.
I've thought of getting rid of it but since it's really not worth anything I'd like to hang onto it.
I did just buy a heavy duty Kenmore yesterday at Goodwill!
It appears to be in brand spanking new shape.
A friend is going to come over this week and help me to get it running (having trouble with the bobbin).
I'm sure it could use some oil, though it doesn't look like it.
This thing is CLEAN.

I've joined our local quilt guild which is great fun.
I made my first quilt when my daughter went to college.
She loves it but I HATE when she crams it into the washing machine ... sigh....
I'm currently working on a quilt-as-you-go Fun & Done pattern for my son's bedroom.

I attended my FIRST quilter's retreat last weekend in Mackinaw City, MI.
LOVED it.
Came home with a few idea of things to do.
I promptly requested a table top acrylic piece for my machine (for my mom to get me for Christmas).

When my daughter went to college I stole her bedroom for my sewing room.
It's a good sized room, but not big enough. LOL

I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Welcome to the Quilting Board Jackie. I'm from sunny Nevada! I know all about small sewing rooms. We recently downsized a bit, and my sewing room is much smaller in this house. It was a real task to get almost everything to fit, and then I had to leave things out. But I'm not whining. Lots of people don't even have sewing rooms. We'll be happy for your input on the quilting posts, and feel free to ask all the questions you'd like. You will always find a sympathetic - and knowledgeable - ear on this Board. So lots of help, support, inspiration and camaraderie here!

Ha....my story sounds similar to your! Kids move and we take over the bedroom! Welcome to a great place

Tell your daughter to have the quilt dry-cleaned. It will come out better, and stay clean longer if it's not crammed into a washing machine where all parts of the quilt can't possible be saturated with the soap solution, nor can it be properly rinsed to get the soap out so it doesn't attract dust and dirt to the quilt.

I take my quilts to the local laundromat where they have some extra large machines, and wash them on gentle with a bit of a soak system planned in. Then I rinse twice: first time with vinegar, to get the soap out, and the second time with plain water. NO fabric softener, as it attracts dust and dirt. The vinegar works as a fabric softener anyway.
