Hello,

I'm new to this board. I am quilting again after taking a break to homeschool my children who are now grown. I've been married for 26 years and my children are 21 and 18. I live in Central Wisconsin. I don't work outside the home except to volunteer at our local crisis pregnancy center two days a week.

I'm glad that I found this forum. The project I'm working on at the moment is a queen size quilt for my daughter's wedding which is on the 1st of August. I know, ambitious. I have already had to rip it out, which brings me to my problem and my hope that someone is reading this.

The quilt is a scrappy quilt of stripes, but instead of the stripes being straight they were all scooping downward before I ripped them out. I was able to ask someone about this and she said it was because the stitches were too tight. My question is this: Do I need to adjust the tension or the stitch length? I'm thinking the tension.

Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the board from Ireland, I hope you enjoy your time here. Can you try posting a picture of your quilt? Did you use a walking foot to sew the stripes? Any more info. might help us to help you.

Hello, and welcome from Missouri!
I think it is a tension problem that is making the stitches too tight and curling them.

Where abouts in Central WI. I will be in Fox Lake sometime next week! I have family allover and will be trying to spend some time with each one, and it is a big task with all the different work schedules and all! Summertime is a busy time for families.

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies! I can't post a picture because I have already taken the quilt apart, but I will try loosening the tension and see what happens. It was in the piecing and the strips all looked like "U"s almost(Only not quite so drastic) instead of nice straight lines and they were cut much straighter than that.

Oh, and I live in Stevens Point. I'm trying to think of where Fox Lake is.....

Stevens Point is south of Wausau right in the middle of the state.

Hi , Welcome. Are you sewing the strips all in the same direction? Try alternating them as sewing -- first set start at the top and next ones start at the bottom and next set start at the top again.
